Cellular telephone towers are multiplying rapidly with the demand for expanded service. The concerns of homeowners and others living near these structures are expanding, as well. Cell
towers, however, are not always easy to locate and can be built overnight. Now, General Data Resources, Inc., has developed an online tool called AntennaSearch that helps locate existing,
hidden and even planned cell tower structures. Not only does this help home buyers and investors make better decisions, but it aids citizens groups who want to have informed input on
construction applications.
"In addition to homeowners, schools, churches, offices and neighborhood associations can benefit from staying informed about antenna locations," said Alfredo Osorio of General Data
Resources.
AntennaSearch provides this data through an easy-to-use Web site (www.antennasearch.com) where users can simply enter an address to obtain detailed mapping and ownership information on
existing and planned structures.
When cell service was in its infancy, antenna towers were usually located in open fields and out-of-the-way places. Unceasing demands for improved service have resulted in more and more
towers located in high traffic locations.
"While those who allow such structures to be placed on their property benefit financially (cell tower leases can bring anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 a month), those unfortunate enough to
be near such a tower have to deal with the potentially harmful effects of exposure to electromagnetic radiation 24/7," Osorio said. "Additionally, property owners within close proximity
to an unsightly tower (even when disguised/camouflaged) stand to lose thousands in property values as demand for the area dwindles. To complicate matters even further, the process of
erecting towers is typically fast paced and unannounced typically catching those around it by surprise."
AntennaSearch reports are free for a basic scan (i.e.: detects existing and hidden tower locations). $9.95 for a complete scan (adds detailed ownership information and future tower
locations). $14.95 for unlimited 30 day access. AntennaSearch covers the entire United States and its territories.
