Al Franke, SRA and John Leary, MAI, CRE, FRICS have released USPAP in plain english: A guidebook to the 2006 Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice for Real Estate
Appraisers and Clients. The book attempts to interpret the 2006 Edition of USPAP in simpler terms and in a more user-friendly format than the original text. The book is aimed at real
estate appraisers who care about performing within the framework of USPAP while meeting the needs of their clients, but do not have the time to conduct an independent research project on
the nuances of the document each time they undertake an assignment. The book is also useful to clients of real estate appraisers so they can better understand what is required by USPAP
and why USPAP-compliant appraisals are in their best interest. In this context, USPAP in plain english only covers the document up through Standard 2 and those Statements on Appraisal
Standards that interpret Standards 1 and 2. USPAP in plain english is designed to be used in conjunction with the 2006 Edition of USPAP and is available at www.lulu.com/USPAPplain.
Franke has been active in the Appraisal Institute and served as a Regional Chair and on the Board of Directors of the organization. Leary was one of the original five members of the
Appraisal Standards Board of the Appraisal Foundation from 1989-1994.
