Nearly half of all investors and speculators responding to a recent online survey predict that the election of Barack Obama to the U.S. presidency will shorten both the length and the depth of the global recession now gripping the worlds's economies. The survey, sponsored by financialspeculation.com was conducted during November and launched just after Mr. Obama became the first black president-elect in American history. In response to the single question, What effect will electing Mr. Obama have on the global recession, 49.2 percent answered that it will shorten both the length and the depth.
The remaining survey responses were not quite as optimistic. Some 33.1 percent said that the election of Mr. Obama would restore faith in the U.S., but that'ss it. And 10 percent
predicted only a short-term emotional lift. The remaining voters amounting to 7.7 percent of the total, said that the markets had already factored in election results, and that there
would be no measurable change.
