The First Towers Rise on The PearlQatar

The Pearl-Qatar, a $2.5 billion, island-city in the Arabian Gulf near Doha, Qatar is taking shape with construction progressing rapidly on 31 residential towers. Completion is scheduled for December, 2008.

Callison planned and designed the entire island development, which is expected to support more than 40,000 residents and covers nearly 1,000 acres. The first phase, Porto Arabia, includes 31, 20-story towers, as well as a million square feet of retail and office space, a Four Seasons Hotel and a 400-berth marina. The island is linked to Qatar's west coast via a short causeway.

The Pearl-Qatar is Qatar's first international real estate venture, the largest real estate development in the country and the first to offer freehold and residential rights to international investors. It is being developed by United Development Company (UDC), Qatars largest private sector shareholding company, which is listed on the Doha Securities Market.
