The Delta Democrat Times recently featured Reverend Brown, a community leader dedicated to giving youth more opportunities. The community of Mississippi Delta is the poorest in the nation, with 60% of people on fixed income or public assistance, and youth struggling with high pregnancy and drop-out rates.
Brown has been writing poetry for 15 years, and when he started thinking of ways to improve his community, he decided to use his poetry to launch soul searching greeting cards aimed at
youth. The cards incorporate issues that local youth face each day.
The Mississippi Delta Reverend works with the citizens for Better Greenville and Mississippi Daycare Learning Center as an advisor to communicate his message of hope and dedication. He
also teaches a Bible class called Bible Speaks, which is designed for youth to bridge the gap between races and provides parenting skills.
The first things that we need to do is pray and get educated, comments Brown. We also need to give youth the skills they need and be held accountable for teaching them.
