Meharry Medical College Presents Symposium Conquering Cervical Cancer...

Meharry Medical College's Department of Internal Medicine, Center for Women's Health Research and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology presents an Interdisciplinary Public Health Symposium "Conquering Cervical Cancer One Generation at a Time". The symposium will focus on the risk factors, prevention methods and the lack of treatment for the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). The symposium is divided into two sessions: The Scientific Session and the Community/Plenary Session. The Scientific Session will be moderated by Stephanie B. Coursey Bailey, M.D., Chief Office of Public Health Practice Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. Eileen Dunne, M.D., Epidemiology Surveillance Branch of the CDC will give an "Overview of HPV and Cervical Cancer" and Dr. Dineo Khabele, M.D. director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology & Women's Cancer Research Laboratory at Meharry Medical College will lecture on the "Breakthroughs and Barriers in Cervical Cancer". The Community/Plenary Session will consist of the "HPV & Adolescent Health" lead by Susanne Tropez-Sims, M.D. associate dean, "Cultural Considerations for HPV Prevention in the Primary Care Setting" lead by Gerard ShuTangyie, M.D., medical director, SASH Healthcare, Inc., "HPV Vaccine - A Plague Diverted" lead by Stephanie Bailey, M.D.
