Bastille Day at London Grill

She probably had more shoes than Imelda Marcos, more clothes than the ladies on Sex and the City, and more jewels than Harry Winston. But she paid for them with her most important possession: her magnificently-coiffed head. She was, of course, Marie Antoinette, the notoriously stylish Queen of France. She may not have survived the Revolution, but her spirit lives on in Philadelphia every year on July 15th. That'ss when Terry McNally, co-owner of London Grill, celebrates Bastille Day by donning couture representative of Louis XVI'ss main squeeze. The holiday celebration has become a citywide ritual.

Be there to experience the fun on Saturday, July 15th at 5:30 p.m., when McNally, decked out in all her regal glory, climbs to the top of the Eastern State Penitentiary to lose her head before hundreds of onlookers. Songs will be sung and fists will be waved as you watch the revolutionaries storm the Bastille.

Not even the guillotine can keep the queen from her post. Following the fun, McNally will play host at London Grill'ss soiree. The party will go on into the wee hours. The menu will be suitably French. The bar will serve its own rendition of the Marie Antoinette cocktail. Merriment will be had by all.

Look: The queen gives her head up for you, year after year. The least you could do is to show up for a toast. London Grill is located at 2301 Fairmount Avenue in Philadelphia. For reservations, call 215.978.4545.
