There is a significant shortage of qualified college instructors in many industry areas. Nursing, construction management, computer programming and networking areas, accounting and finance, and high-end technical allied health specialties are all realizing instructor shortages in the programs training the next generation of workers. In some cases, programs are being closed and new students are being turned away because there are not enough instructors to teach the courses in colleges around the country. These shortages are having and will continue to have long term effects on the trained workforce in the respective industries.
FacultySource actively recruits industry professionals from high need areas recognizing that there is a wealth of expertise in both working and retired professionals that is sorely needed in college classrooms. Students need to learn from professionals with current and real world experience so that they can effectively solve real world problems when they graduate.
When professionals register with FacultySource, they must go through a simple qualification process in order to be approved as an instructor candidate. They must have a minimum number of years of work experience in their field as well as have significant adult teaching experience or documented adult teacher training. Potential instructors must also complete a short student retention seminar designed to make them aware of the importance of helping students succeed in their classrooms and to explain proven strategies for doing so. FacultySource offers 18 basic and advanced online teacher training seminars for professionals who need training. These are accessed directly through the FacultySource site for a nominal fee. If desired, instructor candidates , as well as currently teaching instructors, can participate in the FacultySource Instructor Certification Program that documents instructor skill acquisition and advancement.
"Our goal with FacultySource is to ensure that our school and training organization clients see only instructor candidates who already meet the minimum standards to be an instructor. This saves time and resources that can be better used for direct student care." said Terry Taylor, President of Quantum Integrations. "We cannot guarantee that the instructor candidates will be hired, but we can assure that they meet the minimal standards typically required by colleges, especially those schools in the career college sector."
