Why 'sThe Beauty and the Beast's is chosen to be the theme of this conference Because it reflects the interplay of intricate processes that are good for us in some cases but can be
devastating in others.
The matter is, nervous cells in the brain are interconnected making elaborate networks. Our perception and other brain processes depend on their oscillations but these oscillations are
also involved in a wide range of neurological disorders.
For instance, without the oscillations, there would be not information processing in the brain structures but high frequency oscillations are associated with Parkinson disease and
epilepsy, to name just a couple of neurological diseases. What'ss more, these oscillations are known to enable a previously perfectly normal brain structure to generate seizures - the
principle called seizures beget seizures.
We shall invite to the meeting experts in the clinical and physiological, imaging and theoretical aspects of the question. We expect the venue of students and senior researchers in
neurology and neurobiology as well as mathematics and modeling, said Dr. Yehezkel BEN-ARI, Inmed'ss Director.
