Brampton Adult Soccer Womens Week 4 Review
June 14, 2005 -- The Advil Takers, who held last place as their own prior to Friday night's match up against 1st place Blue Bayou, managed to alter the look of the Division II standings with a stunning 2-1 result. Motivation for the victory could stretch as far back as last season's Division II Championship Final as Blue Bayou (then known as Marooned) squeezed out a 3-2 result against the Advil Takers in Extra Time. Advil's win caused both teams to change the places they held in the standings as Advil climbed 4 places from 12th to 8th and Bayou dropped a spot finishing the week in 2nd.
Division I:
The Blue Bombshells, for the time being, secured 2nd place as they ousted the previous 2nd place side with a 5-2 result. The Rovers, their opponents, managed to continue their goal scoring flare, something that could help towards the end of the season should Goal Differential be required to tabulate the final standings.
Speaking of Goal Differential, the United Black Devils greatly helped their cause with a 15-0 routing of Bram City United.
Peel managed to steer themselves on course for contention as they defeated the Bull Dawgs 1-0.
Division II:
Aside from the Advil Takers/Blue Bayou result, the other result with the most significance was the Callahan Conveyors 5-1 loss to the Strikers, which allowed the Strikers to climb into top spot. The Strikers are on course now to defend their 2005 Winter Indoor title.
The Weekend Warriors only slightly helped their cause as they retained their competitive hope by drawing 1-1 with the Gold Rush. The result clearly reminds us that using table positioning this early in the season to develop a prognosis of future results is a risky endeavour.
Also drawing 1-1 were the Blue Shooters and The Divas, neither side benefited from the single point earned as both sides dropped spots in the standings. Still, a single point from a draw is always better then zero points from a loss.
The Brampton Aces reaffirmed their intention and pleased league analysts as they defeated the Spitfires 3-0. The result pushed the Aces up to 4th, right behind the Weekend Warriors and dropped the Spitfires into the 12th and final spot.
The final Div.II result saw a potential 'return to form' for the inconsistent, yet talented, Golden Rockets. Their 3-1 defeat of Eagles WFC showed promise that the extremely competitive Rockets side of old may be returning.
Division III:
The Sonics continued to stun as they blanked The Talons in their second consecutive 3-0 result. The +6 Goal Differential earned by the Sonics in the past two weeks could prove useful at season's end in an extremely tight Division III. The Sonics 'defend-and-counter' style of play is proving exceedingly difficult to control for their opposition. Whether by design or through natural progression, the system is working wonderfully.
Keeping the Div.III standings close and tight, McHugh Crew and Dixie Dynamo drew 2-2.
Week 5's Key Match Ups:
- The Sonics v. Dixie Dynamo - The Sonics can give themselves a healthy lead in Division III if they can manage their third consecutive victory; the Dynamo on the other hand have a great deal to lose and should be expected to come out strong.
- Rovers v. Blue Lightning - A battle of the mid-table teams. Matches such as this one, which could normally fall below radar are what defines the top half and the bottom half of the table.
- Bram City United v. Peel - A recently Coach-less City side will be looking to gain their first points against a Peel side that has yet to regain the scoring form they had displayed last season.
- The Divas v. Blue Bayou - Blue Bayou will be looking to bounce back from last Friday's loss while the Divas look to build on the single point they earned.
