Brampton Adult Soccer Mens Week 2 Review

May 19, 2005 -- Division I: Richview United continued their winning ways as they defeated B.M.A (formerly Venezia) 6-2. Sporting a +18 goal difference Richview has indicated early on that they're a good bet to retain the league title.

Question is, will the KCM Ambassadors have anything to add to the formula After a 10-1 victory in Week 1, KCM padded their 2nd place position with a 5-2 victory over a squad that is rumored to be quite strong. Structform Strikers, touted in league circles as a side to 'watch' have now failed to earn a point in their first two match ups.

Xavier United didn't look as impressive as they did in Week 1, as they narrowly surpassed Stingers FC 3-2, thus retaining 3rd place.

River Plate climbed to 4th with their second consecutive win, this time beating The A-Team 3-1. River Plate won't be properly tested again until Week 4 when they face the Warriors, an interesting match to say the least.

KFC managed to retain 5th place despite only managing a draw against Armada I, who were out run and disorganized during the entire 1-1 affair. Despite the low score line the match was far from dull as both teams did everything in their power to maintain pace with one another, blazing from one end of the pitch to the other. KFC's deadly pace and technique, the two things that earned them a 1-0 lead, were canceled out by a stunning goal scored from a wonderfully taken corner kick. The ball was intentionally curled into the near post from the left side,it's sudden shift in direction leaving both teams planted and merely watching the mesh bustle.

The Warriors overcame their 7-2 loss to the Loaded Gunnerz with a 7-0 victory over the Enforcers, meanwhile, the Loaded Gunnerz failed to impress as they drew 1-1 with the Super Strikers. A brow furrowing result for the Strikers as they continue to dwell in the bottom half of the table.

Sunday League Records FC slightly redeemed themselves as they handed FC Oakville a loss in a tight fought 4-3 match. After Week 1's 14-0 loss to Richview Utd., Sunday League are going to need quite a few more results like this one if they have any intention of climbing the standings. For the time being though, it served them well enough to move them one spot out of the bottom as they leaped over the Enforcers who are now sitting in 16th.

Division II:

Last season wasn't impressive in regards to Sur Latino, however, whatever they did to improve this season, it's working; a 6-1 win over The Chops (now sitting dead last with two unfavourable results) has entrusted 1st place to Sur Latino for at least another week. Can they hold out in Week 3 when they face Sporting FC, who split their win-loss record with a 3-2 win against FC Cruzados, who could possibly still have been upset about their Week 1 cancellation being extended until June 11th.

The Samba Squad continued to brazenly introduce themselves to the league as they beat the Unknown Strikers 2-1. This didn't help the Strikers in the standings as they dropped 3 spots allowing rivals Armada II to climb above them after and 8-1 win over Team B FC. Armada II's stellar performance saw them shift 5 places in the standings as they now sit in 6th with a decent cushion in terms of goal differential.

Bullets FC seem keen to hang around for at least a few more weeks as they beat the B.T. Rangers 4-3. Are the Bullets the real thing, or have they just had an easy two weeks; Los Diablos Locos should be eager to help answer this question as they meet up in Week 3. The Diablos can only help their cause if they follow up in Week 3 with the sort of result that earned them a 4 spot jump in the standings from 11th to 7th - their 4-1 victory over Jets-Go FC isn't exactly a counter balance to their 4-3 loss to Team B FC, but it is a start.

Ocean's 11 fell once again in a close match as Brampton Athletic earned their first win with 5-3 score. Athletic are sitting comfortably having gone unbeaten in 2 matches - as are Nisim International following their second consecutive 3-3 draw, this time against Manz United. Watch for either of these three teams, Athletic, Manz or Nisim to eventually challenge for the top 3 spots. Unless, of course, league regulars like Armada II, Unknown Strikers or Team B FC get their old form back and return to their winning ways.

Keep an eye out for Week 3's early key match ups:

- Richview Utd. v. Structform Strikers - Structform will be hard pressed to make an impact against Division I a power house.

- KCM Ambassadors v. Warriors - If they can defeat a former league champion, one will have no choice left but to view KCM as a contender for the title.

- Xavier United v. Armada I - Xavier's keeper will be keen to face his old squad; Xavier needs the win to prove their worth and Armada I needs it even more if they hope to carve out any chance of once again contending for a title.

- KFC v. Loaded Gunnerz - Simply put, this is a real test for the new look Gunnerz.

- Nisim International v. Samba Squad - Nisim need a win and with their steady play, this could be Samba's first test. Danger looms as the teams around them appear to have easy opponents.

- Jets-Go FC v. The Chops - No one wants to anchor a table and both sides will come out with every intention of making sure that it's the other guys that are down there.
