Brampton Adult Soccer: Women's Week 2 Review

The 3 women's divisions slowly begin to take shape as round 2 of matches is played; suspected pretenders prove themselves to be the real deal and questions are asked of the resident power houses.

(PREWB) June 2, 2005 -- Scheduling issues forced an early start to week 2 as 4 Division I sides met on May 20th. The ensuing results provided little clue to how the season would unfold as the Blue Lightning defeated Bram City United (their first match of the season) with a convincing 5-1 victory. Long time rivals, United Black Devils and Blue Bombshells underwent a competitive match, whose final result is, as of yet, undecided.

Once the two early matches were played out, the ladies were able to return to the regular rotation, this time granting some clues as to what we an expect from the season.

Division I:

The Rovers, still trying to impress upon us that they've grown substantially, handed Bram City United their second consecutive loss as they scored 9 and allowed none. The United Black Devils continued their winning ways defeating Blue Lightning 2-0, while the other two potential favourites, Blue Bombshells and Peel drew 2-2. The Bull Dawgs sat this round out.

Division II:

"Where did the Weekend Warriors come from"This standard mid-table squad have given themselves good footing to continue holding a spot in the top 4, they simply have to continue producing the positive results they have, like beating the Blue Shooters 2-1.

Blue Bayou continues to speak loudly as they shout from the top of the Division II standings - their message received loud and clear by Friday's opponents and former outdoor and indoor table-toppers, the Golden Rockets. Blue Bayou mercilessly handed the Rockets a 6-0 loss - not the sort of score line expected from two teams so heavily weighted with skill.

2005 Winter Indoor Champs, the Strikers, continued their winning ways as they defeated the Brampton Aces 3-2. The Aces have been improving their competitive abilities for several seasons now and are due for a run at the top, pundits anticipate that although they may fall slightly short, this could be the season for them to do it.

The Spitfires, still looking for that elusive first goal, dropped another decision as they handed Gold Rush a clean sheet in a 2-0 loss. Gold Rush on the other hand, jumped 5 spots in the table as they split their first two matches with a win and a loss.

Eagles WFC stunned Callahan Conveyors with a thrilling 4-2 victory. 6 goal games are entertaining by nature, this one stood out especially as it allowed the Eagles to climb into 5th spot, unfamiliar territory.

The Divas tried to regain their momentum after dropping all three points in Week 1 to the high flying Warriors; and as they met with the Advil Takers, their effort and determination proved worthy of a 2-1 win. With only a point garnered from the previous week's match, the Advil Takers could really have benefited with a victory that would have given them an opportunity to rise as high as 3rd place.

Division III:

The McHugh Crew asserted themselves at the top of the table by collecting a draw and a win. Their 2-0 downing of then leaders The Talons made them the only undefeated team in Division III. The Sonics on the other hand, after suffering a 4-1 defeat at the hands of The Talons the week before, managed to edge out their first 3 points of the season by squeaking past Dixie Dynamo 3-2.

Week 3's Key Match Ups:

- United Black Devils v. Rovers - The first BIG test for the Rovers, if they want to prove that this time around they are true contenders, this is a result they need to get.

- Bram City United v. Bull Dawgs - It's simple; no one wants to anchor the bottom of the table.

- Callahan Conveyors v. Brampton Aces - The Aces need to start making their run early if they want to stay in the race for top spot and Callahan Conveyors, the new kids on the block, will be looking to get back to winning form as they are a highly skilled side.

- Strikers v. The Divas - shuffling should continue between these two squads for the extent of the season as far as standings are concerned. As such, this is a pivotal match whose result could come into play late in the season.

- Weekend Warriors v. Blue Bayou - "Are they both for real" This Friday's result will most likely indicate to both side's supporters, what they can anticipate from their team.

- Both Division 3 matches should be of interest. With a pool of only 4 teams, this week will complete the first full circle of matches and thus potentially drawing clear indications of who the favourites could be. Surprise results in either of the two matches would continue to leave analysts guessing.
