Brampton Adult Soccer Womens Week 5 Review

June 20, 2005 -- During Week 5 of Brampton Adult Soccer, goal scoring efforts in Division I continue to mount, while Division 2 continues to be a mad shuffle of mid-table squads. In Division III, one side prevails as an early season favourite.

Division I:

Bram City United, still without a Coach or some sort of organizing force, fell to an irreparable score line once again as they fell 16-0 to an extremely organized and methodical Peel. The quality and talent of the 'unfamiliar' Bram City squad is seriously hampered in light of the loss of their Coach some two weeks ago. Onlookers have speculated that if Bram City could find a way to etch out a game plan of sorts, they could fare better in future matches against some of Division I's lower table sides.

The Blue Bombshells managed to remain within reach of the United Black Devils as they narrowly defeated the Bull Dawgs 2-1. The Dawgs, for the time being, seem to be firmly entrenched just ahead of Bram City United, with the pairing making up the bottom of the table.

Blue Lightning showed some class as they outscored a Rovers squad that have proven themselves to be capable goal scorers in their 5-3 loss. The even keeled 8 goal match ended with the Lightning as victors, however, Rovers' showing should still build confidence that they are here to compete.

In Division II:

The Strikers continued their dominance of Division II as they won their match over the Blue Shooters 4-1. To date, the Strikers are the only side without a loss. Their closest rivals, Blue Bayou, were not as fortunate as they dropped two points by drawing 1-1 with The Divas. The result, while potentially damaging to Bayou, was beneficial for the Divas as it allowed them to slightly regain some of the ground they've lost in their recent 3 game winless streak.

The Callahan Conveyors continued their trend of trading wins and losses as they tallied up their 3rd win of the season with a rousing 7-3 victory over the Spitfires. The week's results were kind to Callahan and the win has allowed them to take 3rd place for the time being. Putting together a string of 2 or 3 wins is of the utmost importance at this point.

The Golden Rockets seem to have shaken free of the early season jitters and continue to climb the rankings as they win, by a narrow 4-3 margin of the upstart Brampton Aces. The good showing against a talented side such as the Rockets, despite the end result being a loss, is still an optimistic sign of things to come for the Aces.

The Advil Takers, still riding a confident wave after last week's revengeful result over Blue Bayou, won again as they matched up with Gold Rush and added a +4 goal differential to their season tally with their 5-1 win. The Advil Takers, after starting the season at the bottom have slowly managed to wrestle 5th spot away from the competition.

Rounding off the week's results is a second curious result for the Weekend Warriors who, after starting out strong, are having a difficult time answering the questions posed by their opposition Eagles WFC. The 2-2 draw was predominantly a benign issue as both teams were served reasonably well with the point they received.

At the end of Week 5, Women's Division II continued to show the strength of its parity as it remained the only division in all of BAS that has seen every team within its ranks achieve at least one win.

Division III:

In a chippy and hard fought match, The Sonics managed to exit the week as front runners for the title with a 5 point lead over The Talons, who sit in second with 7 points. The Sonics 2-1 win over Dixie Dynamo extended their win streak to 4.

The Talons allowed the McHugh Crew to continue their trend of drawing matches as the 90 minutes came to a close at 2-2.

Week 6's Key Match Ups:

- Callahan Conveyors v. Golden Rockets - With the Golden Rockets looking to reclaim their status as table-toppers Callahan Conveyors will most certainly need to stop trading wins and losses and put together a string of positive results if they want to hold onto third.

- Bull Dawgs v. Rovers - Neither side wants another loss and the Rovers will be looking to put the brakes on their recent 3 game slide.

- Blue Bayou v. Blue Shooters - Along with a lot of pundits, Blue Shooters most likely feel that they aren't where they could be in terms of the 'Win' column, meanwhile, Blue Bayou will be looking to recover from two unfortunate showings, it's necessary that they win if they wish to keep tabs on the Strikers.

- United Black Devils v. Blue Bombshells - Ana Rupoli and her squad will need to lay it all on the line if they intend on keeping the Devils in check. Any chance of finishing first resides in the match ups that these two teams will have this season. With the first match ending in a draw, one can only guess what the result will be here.
