The Canadian National Committee for UNIFEM is pleased announce its new President and Board of Directors.

The Canadian Committee for UNIFEM is a volunteer driven organization based in Ottawa. It has chapters in Winnipeg, and Toronto. Its mission is to advocate for gender equality, to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS among girls and women, to reduce violence towards women and to strengthen democratic participation of women in peace and in war. To achieve these goals, the Committee advocates and fund raises in Canada for UNIFEM.

Almas Jiwani, recent recipient of the Governor General'ss award for humanitarian work and Founder, President and CEO of Frontier Canada Inc, a Corporate Communication Company, has been involved with CCUNIFEM for the past several years, serving on the Board in Canada, first as a Board of Director then as a Vice President and National Committee and Headquarters Liaison.

Ms. Jiwani travels extensively for speaking engagements on women'ss poverty alleviation in developing countries, playing a key role in building bridges among charitable institutions and socially responsibly businesses. She has led and executed several national and international projects and attended several UN, Government, NGO and business conferences.

It'ss a privilege to welcome our new Board of CCUNIFEM, said Almas Jiwani, President of CCUNIFEM. Our team is comprised of future leaders and passionate advocates for UNIFEM promoting the development of its cause both nationally and internationally. Their expertise and dedication will help our Board of Directors shape the future of Canadian National Committee for United Nations Development Fund for Women.

We are delighted to have a number of high caliber individuals contributing to the future strategic direction for our organization as a whole and particularly in Canada, said Jiwani. Jiwani will take up this new role immediately. She will remain based in Toronto, Ontario.
