In effort to make the holidays happier for deserving children and bring attention to gymnastics programs making a difference in the lives of others, GK Elite Sportswear and Inside Gymnastics magazine, two of the leaders in the gymnastics industry, partnered in a Spirit of Giving outreach, benefitting a California gymnastics club that has touched the many lives with its unique approach to teaching.
Reading, Pa.-based GK Elite Sportswear, a leading manufacturer of gymnastics leotards, apparel, and accessories, teamed with Inside Gymnastics magazine to identify a deserving program to
be the recipient of a broad range of items, ranging from leotards and apparel to novelties and accessories. This year'ss recipient is the Community Youth Center, based out of Concord, CA.
Gymnastics is just one of the ten recreational programs at the Community Youth Center (CYC), which also offers cheerleading, wrestling, taekwondo, and dance, among others. In fact the
CYC, located in the Bay Area of Northern California, encourages participation in multiple activities to develop strong motor skills. The CYC equally stresses the importance of academics
through its Academic Excellence Center where students can seek the assistance of tutors or do homework independently. The program also offers scholarships to children from inner city and
underprivileged areas. The ultimate goal of the CYC is to teach youth basic core values for developing inner-strength and self-confidence so they can become good people with high
character.
It is an honor to be part of a program that receives this year'ss recipient of the Spirit of Giving program, said Mike Guzman, Head Coach of the gymnastics program at CYC. I have been
with the CYC for two years. In that time I'sve realized they are interested in the child and not the bottom line. It'ss really nice to be part of something where it is really all about
the kids. I can honestly go home each day knowing that without a doubt, I did what was in the best interest of the child. I am thankful every day that my wife and I are lucky enough to
work at the CYC, it is truly a place I have always hoped for.
In the spirit of the season and in an effort to spotlight outstanding gymnastics programs that are making a difference in the lives of youth, we are proud to recognize the efforts of
Community Youth Center in Concord, California, said GK Elite Sportswear Marketing Manager Kelly McKeown. With the products we'sre providing, the program will have some items to use
personally as well as some for fundraising efforts in this upcoming year. We wish Community Youth Center all the best in 2009 and beyond!
Community Youth Center has made a point of focusing not only on the athletic side of development, but has also stressed the importance of academic excellence, said Inside Gymnastics
magazine President Chris Korotky. The direction of the program combined with its fee and scholarship structure were prime reasons we selected it for recognition in our Spirit of Giving
initiative.
GK and Inside Gymnastics magazine plan to make the Spirit of Giving initiative an annual tradition.
