rough April 30, 2009. As petroleum becomes more expensive, and environmental concerns grow, paper bags from DuroBag.com are gaining in popularity.
Ludlow, KY May 2, 2006 -- Paper bags chosen by the Department of Defense With $5.6 million contract.
When our men in uniform buy their groceries, they will be putting them into paper bags. Starting on May 1, 2006, the US Department of Defense will be purchasing paper bags for their
commissaries from Duro Bag Manufacturing. A $5.6 million contract has been awarded to the Ludlow, KY based company to supply paper bags to the military through April 30, 2009.
While most grocery stores have been purchasing plastic over paper bags during the last few years, paper is the logical choice for the future. When factoring in the cost of disposal, and
the effect of plastic bags as far as pollution, the return to paper bags makes sense.A number of stores and consumers concerned with the effects of petroleum based plastic bags have been
switching back to paper.
"Plastic is petroleum based, takes thousands of years to decompose, and is not a renewable source like paper. Add to that our dependency on foreign oil, and paper becomes the obvious
choice," says Rick Hensley of Duro Bag.
Another factor weighing in favor of the choice to purchase the paper bags was that they are manufactured in North America. While many jobs and products are being lost to manufacturing
facilities overseas, Duro is a family owned company, based in Ludlow, Kentucky, with 11 plants in the United States.
