Participants at last month's annual Outlook Leadership Conference found an important message about customer service in a most unusual source--the restrooms. Signage in both the men's and women's facilities at the Wigwam Golf Resort and Spa in Phoenix, Arizona, proudly proclaimed the areas had been deep cleaned by Sparkling Image "because we care".
"Many retailers are looking for better ways to show their customers how much they appreciate them and their business," says Lawrence Clasby, chief executive officer of Sparkling Image
(www.sparkling-image.com). "But sometimes it's hard to find a tangible way that means something to the customer. A clean restroom not only
sends a strong "we care" message, it's also very important to customers."
Numerous studies show that restroom cleanliness is a top-ranking concern among customers. Fear of contracting diseases such as SARS, the flu, and hepatitis from the germs that linger on
door handles, sinks, faucets and other surfaces, coupled with the startling fact that only 77% of adults wash their hands after using a public facility, make restroom cleanliness more
important than ever before.
Linda Hutchinson of Hutchinson Oil knows first-hand the importance of clean restrooms. "People will go out of their way to find a clean restroom, passing up three or four gas stations,
maybe more, along the way. I want Hutchinson Oil to be the one they choose."
"Retailers are starting to see restroom cleanliness in a different light," adds Clasby. "It's no longer a nice-to-have; it's a competitive differentiator and a boon to the bottom line."
The Wigwam restrooms were treated to Sparkling Image's signature Total Touch service, a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling deep cleaning that removes dirt, odor and bacteria from every
surface, even drains and vents, with proprietary enzymes that keep on killing germs and viruses long after the scrubbing stops.
In addition to the restroom cleaning program, Sparkling Image sponsored one of the featured speakers at the Outlook Leadership conference, Tom Feltenstein, and hosted a drawing for free
Sparkling Image cleaning service. The winner, Robert Buhler of Open Pantry Food Marts of Wisconsin, Inc., will receive 60 days of service plus a walk-in cooler cleaning.
