Aperto Networks Now Offers WiMAX Solutions for Widest Range of Frequencies

Aperto Networks, builder of the worlds most advanced carrier-grade and cost-effective WiMAX base stations and subscriber units, announced today at the CTIA Wireless show in Las Vegas that its PacketMAX solution now supports the 3.65 GHz and 4.9 GHz frequency bands for delivering broadband wireless services in the United States.

As a result, Apertos Fixed WiMAX solution now incorporates support for 5.8 GHz, 5.4 GHz, 5.1 GHz, 4.9 GHz, 3.65 GHz, 3.5 GHz, and 3.3 GHz bands. Additionally, the companys Mobile WiMAX solution supports 2.3 GHz, 2.5 GHz, 3.3 GHz, 3.5 GHz and 3.8 GHz. PacketMAX offers the widest frequency support in the WiMAX ecosystem globally.

"Availability of WiMAX solutions in 3.65 GHz and 4.9 GHz spectrum opens up significant opportunity for service providers and municipalities across the United States," said Manish Gupta, Vice President of Marketing and Alliances for Aperto Networks and WiMAX Forum Board Member. "This simple adaptation of our WiMAX Forum Certified PacketMAX solution brings the benefits of the highly differentiated and globally deployed WiMAX offering to service provider, enterprise, and governmental organizations across the country. 4.9 GHz meets the need of the public safety market."

Gupta continued, "It is anticipated that deployments in 3.65 GHz and 4.9 GHz bands, along with 5.8 GHz and 5.4 GHz bands, will result in the widest adoption of WiMAX as the preferred broadband wireless technology in United States."

Aperto continues its singular focus on WiMAX. The companys comprehensive WiMAX Solutions Ecosystem (ApertoWiSE) of products, services, and tools helps customers quickly and profitably roll out WiMAX-based services.

"By extending PacketMAX support to 3.65 GHz, Aperto has given another practical option for service providers who do not own licensed spectrum," said Emmy Johnson, Founder and Principal Analyst at Sky Light Research. "Smaller ISPs are able to cost-effectively compete head-to-head with larger providers, by taking advantage of WiMAX in frequencies like the 3.65 GHz spectrum. These types of strategic offerings are vital to regional service providers who want to leverage the benefits of WiMAX."

The PacketMAX family of products delivers the critical elements required to reliably extend wireless broadband services to a wide range of users-ranging from governments, large enterprises and public-sector organizations to multi-tenant buildings and residences-using a single, standards-based platform. The companys flagship product, the PacketMAX 5000 base station, is also the only carrier-grade base station that can support and operate both the IEEE 802.16-2004 and IEEE 802.16-2005 WiMAX standards simultaneously, as well as licensed and license-exempt frequencies.
