Arxan Technologies, a leading provider of application hardening solutions designed to protect software intellectual property (IP) from tampering and theft, today announced enhancements to its GuardIT solution. The new features make it easier than ever to produce applications that are tamper-resistant and prevent software piracy through increased automation, easier protection processes and selective analysis abilities. This latest release also includes support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.
The Business Software Alliance (BSA) and IDC recently reported in their fifth annual joint study on software piracy (http://www.arxan.com/software-protection/software-piracy.php) that the problem is growing at an alarming rate,
increasing 38 percent year over year and putting software vendors at a high risk of revenue loss due to code theft via tampering or reverse engineering. The study concluded that worldwide
losses due to piracy rose by $8 billion to a total of $48 billion in 2007 alone.
"The BSA and IDC have again quantified the billions of dollars lost to software tampering and piracy each year. While traditional approaches leveraging education and law enforcement
(http://www.arxan.com/piracy-resources/articles/software-protection-articles-5708.php)
are critical, software-driven businesses are not in a position to leave the battle just to the public sector," said Mike Dager, President and CEO, Arxan. "Customers are therefore adopting
new generation application hardening technologies to make their software tamper-resistant and stem revenue losses. Arxan is pleased to provide continued leadership in the fight against
hackers with our durable and easy to use application hardening solution."
As a result of the business need to protect software applications and continued customer demand, Arxan has increased the ease of use and automation capabilities of its GuardIT solution
(http://www.arxan.com/software-protection/GuardITProducts.php), a proven commercial software protection product
for both managed and native code. The GuardIT family includes GuardIT for Windows, GuardIT for Linux and GuardIT for .NET, and all GuardIT offerings feature automated, easy to use, yet
customizable protection across desktop, embedded and server software applications.
Feature enhancements to GuardIT include:
- Easier Protection Design Process with Call Chain Analysis
ISVs and software developers now have the ability to designate a "call chain" range to automatically discover the application's functional hierarchy. This automated discovery of the set
of functions that directly or indirectly call or are called by a specified origin, makes the protection process simpler, faster, yet more comprehensive.
- Greater Flexibility in Selective Analysis for Faster Protection
GuardIT's selective analysis ability that enables users to analyze only desired portions of an image now offers the ability to specify the code by address, function name, object file name
or library file name. This greater flexibility in selective analysis allows users to design their protection with greater ease and speed.
- Automated Reaction Option to Attacks
Arxan's Repair Guard replaces tampered regions of software applications with original code, and can also replace sensitive regions with decoy or garbage code when not in use to limit the
window of opportunity for hackers. Now customers can use a simple automated process to trigger a powerful reaction of automatic code damaging and repair to attacks.
- Expanded Platform Support for Visual Studio 2008 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Update 1
GuardIT now protects programs that are built with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (Visual Studio Version 9.0), as well as protects programs targeted for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop
operating system, version 5 with update 1, 32 bit (x86) and 64 bit (x64).
Now armed with GuardIT's increased automation, software providers can continue to exercise flexible-yet-granular control over software without impacting performance or changing source
code. GuardIT enables software-driven companies to protect software-rich IP against piracy and tampering with an easy-to-use application hardening solution (http://www.arxan.com/anti-piracy/overview.php).
