Avatar Promotions today announces the Second Life virtual creation of Dealey Plaza, the site where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963. Jason Baird, lead consultant of Avatar Promotions, says he has no opinions on who killed President Kennedy, but he made it possible for users to log on to the internet and visit a virtual 3D version of that part of downtown Dallas.
Two to three million people visit Dealey Plaza every year. Now they no longer have to go to Dallas to "be there and see it." Those in Second Life can meet in virtual reality to entertain
their own theories.
IBM is spending millions of dollars on 3D virtual worlds and has thousands of employees dedicating a lot of time to these types of virtual worlds. Second Life offers collaborative and
social networking advantages that the traditional flat internet cannot compete with; the current Internet is more like reading a book, Second Life is more like real life including
collaboration, exploration, socializing, and shared experiences. Baird said that IBM's commitment to Second Life caused him to realize that this particular brand of virtual reality was
not just a trend. Mr. Baird learned some of these facts from an IBM executive expounding on some of these ideas in a Second Life event that he attended.
Geography is no longer a barrier to "being there" though time zones still are. Dropping by someone's office for a "face to face talk" brings the new virtual world back to the good old
times where people interacted with each other in a more personal way than telephone or email. The 3D world is more human and social. A laundry list of major companies that have a presence
inside Second Life include Reuters, BMW, SAP, Manpower, CNN, etc. and are using it for everything from virtual meetings, training, brand awareness, to virtual prototyping. According to a
TimesOnline article, there are even reports of jihadists using it for terror training. (www.avatarpromotions.com/jfk and download and install the software and then click on the link on
