Adobe Standard Signals Turmoil Ahead for Proprietary CAD Vendors
Seemage's8482;, the leader in facilitating communication by making product data interactive, today announced that it is releasing a plug-in for 3D PDF. Seemage will support not only the current Adobe 3D PDF activities but also the 's8220;future's8221; of 3D PDF.
With this release Seemage users have the option of publishing 3D PDF files in either Adobe's8217;s u3D file format or Seemage's8217;s .smg file format. 3D PDF files published in the Seemage format provide up to a 10X performance improvement over u3d. As well the Seemage PDF Plug-in provides additional tools.
's8220;Our strategy is to be open and agnostic to file formats and PLM integration so it makes simple sense to support the de facto standard,'s8221; said Chris Williams, CEO, Seemage. 's8220;It is great to see a company with such a strong history of driving standards enter a market where the users and customers have been dictated to by their software partners.'s8221;
To experience the performance of the Seemage 3D PDF plug-in download at
www.seemage.com/freedl/SeemageAcrobat.exe, Acrobat 7 is required. In order to see performance examples you can download a u3d example at
www.seemage.com/freedl/samples/pdf/u3d.pdf and a .smg example at
www.seemage.com/freedl/samples/pdf/smg.pdf.
's8220;We are at an exciting time in the industry as we witness the proprietary hold by CAD vendors over their file formats being eroded by new technology from independent vendors such as Seemage,'s8221; said Williams. 's8220;It is about time that users be given access to their data through non CAD company applications and I look forward to Microsoft, Yahoo, and Google placing their bets.'s8221;
