Empowerment Fitness's174;, a Boston-based mind/body company is now offering Parent Workshops, Parent Coaching, and a Free Parenting Tips blog (www.empoweryourteen.blogspot.com) to help parents navigate the challenges of raising healthy, happy and resilient teens in today'ss high risk culture.
Parents are concerned that the media and new technologies are pushing their teens toward dangerous behaviors at younger and younger ages. Binge drinking, sex texting, and cyber-bullying
are now reaching middle schoolers. Parents need to know that there are things they can do to help their teen make healthy choices in any environment.
A strong relationship with parents, clear boundaries and expectations, and the self-confidence to manage disappointments and challenges are the critical triad that help kids withstand the
pressures to engage in high risk behaviors, says Dr. Dale Sokoloff, clinical psychologist and founder of Empowerment Fitness's174;. Beginning in middle school, parents notice that their
previously forthcoming and open kids, are increasingly private and uncommunicative. We teach parents how to connect with their teens and get them to open up. Building on the foundation of
good communication, parents can learn how to help their teens deal with the dual tasks of fitting into the peer group and becoming their own best self.
Empowerment Fitness's174; (www.empowermentfitness.com) helps parents tackle teen issues in three ways, 1) Interactive Parent Workshops that
offer real-life strategies to help kids manage issues such as friendships and fitting in, stress related to school and competitive activities, negative body image and self-esteem; 2)
Parent Coaching which provides parents with guidance and solutions to specific teen concerns; and 3) A parenting blog called Bold*Brave*Best Self: Parenting Resilient Teens, which
provides free online parenting tips for addressing a host of teen issues.
Most parents are working really hard to raise healthy and happy teens, and the parents who attend our workshops are more committed than ever. So many issues facing parents today are
unique to this generation of kids, but there are specific strategies that work, added Dr. Sharon O'sConnor, developmental psychologist and Empowerment Fitness's174; co-founder.
Any parent who is concerned about their teen can join the blog (www.empoweryourteen.blogspot.com), sign up for parent coaching, or
