This year's prestigious 118 awards were held at The Lowry Hotel Manchester City Centre. Hosted by the very funny Gina Yashere the best directory enquiries services in the world have been
rightly rewarded. This year's award entrants were treated to a champagne reception and mouth watering five course meal at Manchester's first five star hotel.
The Community Impact Award has been designed to recognize the positive achievements since directory enquiries liberalization in the UK.
The award was kindly presented by Ruth Hardiman of Cancer Research UK. Already Cancer Research UK has received more than 150,000 from 118 numbers and their employee's charity work. During
her presentation Ruth highlighted other achievements made by the industry including the increased employment in the sector and positive recruitment practices benefiting charities such as
Remploy and Access to Work.
"More than a quarter of a million pounds has been raised by 118 numbers, customers and staff for good causes" stated Ruth.
The deserving winner of the community impact award began their company with a unique approach and in the early days even paid for their meetings with charities. There unfaltering
dedication to raising money for charity has meant this smaller 118 operation has managed to raise nearly 50,000 and is still going strong.
The winner of the 2005 Directory Enquiries Community Impact Award is Share Communications.
