"Despite big plans and visions, to date, the promise of the mobile web and a truly untethered Internet has not been realized," said Om Malik, Giga Omni Media's founder. "Now, with the convergence of recent developments in design, user experience, handset technology, and location and wireless network technology, everything is changing and the mobile web is about to take off like a rocket. Mobilize will explore the advancements driving the development of the mobile web as well as the implications and opportunities for entrepreneurs and their investors."
Up until now, the wireless Internet has been out of reach, largely due to the slower-than-predicted rollout of 3G wireless technologies. Today, several developments are powering a new kind of mobile web experience that is richer, faster and easier to navigate. Network technology, including the rapid approach of 4G wireless, is increasing network speeds and powering devices with bigger screens and newer interfaces. Wireless operating systems, including RIM's Blackberry, Apple OSX, Google Android, LiMo, Windows Mobile and Symbian, are opening up opportunities for rich, new applications and device personalization. In addition, a new generation of mobile browsers can now render AJAX web applications.
Mobilize will look at the innovations changing the mobile web today and the ideas yet to come - topics will include:
- Next-generation Networks, Handsets and Chipsets
- Rethinking Products in the Age of Hyperconnectivity
- The Economics of Mobile Development Platforms
- LTE or WiMAX: Who Does the Future Belong To
- Mobile Browsers
- Location-based Services
- Emerging Mobile Business and Revenue Patterns
- Mobile Investment trends
- Startup Launchpad: Showcase of the 12 Hottest Mobile Startups
