As Amy Sedaris Prepares for July 10th Appearance on Colbert Report Fictional Congresswoman Sherri Davis Challenges Jerri Blank to a Political Debate
8211; As 's8220;Strangers With Candy's8221; star Amy Sedaris gets ready for her highly anticipated July 10th interview with Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central's8217;s award-winning 's8220;Colbert Report,'s8221; fictional Congresswoman Sherri Davis from the hot new teen musical 's8220;In Your Dreams's8221; has issued a challenge to Jerri Blank, the fictional lead of Strangers With Candy, to debate her on the top political issues of the day in a presidential style debate to be broadcast on the Internet.
's8220;As a user, loser and abuser -- and a former drug addict and prostitute 's8211; it is a virtual certainty that Jerri Blank is a card-carrying Democrat,'s8221; predicts Zeke Farrow, the Miramax-linked creator of the hot new teen musical 's8220;In Your Dreams.'s8221; 's8220;But we don'st know for sure. Fictional Congresswoman Sherri Davis, meanwhile, has led a more sheltered life, sticking to the traditional Republican vices of prescription drugs and excessive gambling.'s8221;
The fictional California Congresswoman 's8211; a Yale graduate! 's8211; has already staked out many of her political positions via videotaped postings on the Internet.
's8220;Even though the Internet was invented by a Democrat, Al Gore, Congresswoman Davis feels it does have its proper uses on occasion,'s8221; says Farrow. 's8220;Davis has staked out significant political positions, all for the good of America, on the hot-button issues of mandatory portion control, illegal immigration, flag burning, the minimum wage, the Marriage Amendment and other topics.'s8221; Davis's8217; positioning statement -- 's8220;It sounds terrible 's8211; but it really isn's8217;t! -- will no doubt resonate with many in today'ss political field, says Farrow.
Jerri Blank's8217;s positions on these issues are less clear, says Farrow. 's8220;Jerri obviously follows a type of popular religious belief in America's8211; let's8217;s call it 's8216;Christian Amorality's8217; 's8211; that speaks to many in both political parties in this new century. Farrow says he suspects that Blank is a flag-burner 's8211; 's8220;and she probably did inhale.'s8221;
The fictional Congresswoman Sherri Davis makes an appearance in the hot new teen musical 's8220;In Your Dreams's8221; as a featured speaker at the high school assembly; we find that she was appointed to her spot in Congress as a result of the untimely death of her husband, Sun-Yi Davis, the first Chinese-American elected to Congress. 's8220;Her district runs from Anaheim to Cupertino, areas that are heavily involved in the entertainment industry,'s8221; says Farrow. 's8220;The Congresswoman has in fact been featured as an actress in one Hollywood production herself: 's8216;Table for Three: The Mile High Edition.'s8217; And so with her experience and work ethic she is obviously far ahead of Jerri Blank in terms of what voters are looking for 's8211; but as we know, every election is essentially a different horse race.'s8221;
In her interviews, Davis notes that she opposes increasing the minimum wage 's8220;because it is better leaving that money in the hands of the wealthy, who know what to do with it, and also suggests setting up tent cities in the Arizona desert to house illegal immigrants 's8211; a proposal remarkably similar to one recently made by Republican gubernatorial candidate Don Goldwater of Arizona. She also talks about her close friendship with Vice President Dick Cheney, and reminisces about her days 's8220;stewing's8221; with Kathy Hilton, mother of the well-known actress Paris Hilton.

In Your Dreams,'s8221; the well-spring of the fictional Congreswoman Sherri Davis, is a large-scale, splashy, teen musical 's8211;- with just a dash of political satire. It centers around Helen, a seventeen-year-old girl who appears in three different incarnations: Black, Pink, and Blue. It opens with the bizarre introduction of Black Helen, a girl tortured by fellow students Melanie and Jordanna and secretly in love with Jared. We quickly learn that Black Helen is but a dream and as she fades and Pink Helen wakes up, we realize that Pink Helen's8217;s life is a perfect, bubble gum musical. She is popular, she's8217;s dating Jared, she has high hopes for a perfect day. And today is the day to beat all days. It is prom, and Helen is a front runner to win prom queen's8230;until she learns that the 's8220;Popular Girls Caucus's8221; has turned against her, and is even stuffing the ballot box to engineer her defeat!
What is helping to fuel the 's8220;In Your Dreams Express,'s8221; according to Farrow, are its 13 ingeniously lyrical songs, performed by a number of top Broadway singers, including 's8220;Trailer Park's8217;s's8221; Drama Desk-nominated Leslie Kritzer, 's8220;Wicked's8217;s's8221; Laura Bell Bundy, 's8220;Les Miserable's8217;s's8221; Jodie Langel, 's8220;Little Shop of Horror's8217;s's8221; Kerry Butler, 's8220;Thoroughly Modern Millie's8217;s's8221; Gavin Creel, 's8220;Hairspray's8217;s's8221; Jackie Hoffman, 's8220;The Full Monty's8217;s's8221; Sloan Just, and Anika Larsen, Danny Rocket and Anthony Rapp from 's8220;Rent.'s8221; Rhythm and blues artist Shayna Steele is also a contributor.

Among those in the motion picture industry with a growing awareness of the significant market value that a theater-distributed rival to Disney's8217;s cable-based 's8220;High School Musical's8221; has to offer are Joss Wedon; Ryan Kavanaugh of Gun Hill Road; Thomas Tull and Scott Mednick of Legendary Pictures; Oliver Obst; Garry Marshall, Rosie O'sDonnell, Melrose Investors; Paul Bricault, Johnny Levin, Jerry Della Femina, Ken Lombard, Steve Tihanyi, Tricia Bouzigard, Mark Dowley, Brian Goldner, Lori Sale, Lisa Jacobson, Shepardson Stein & Kaminsky, Sarah Warda, Tim Mades, Lenny Stern, Peter Benedek, Darren Star, Penny Marshall, Ray Lawrence, Richard Kelly, Bob Osher; Andrea Arnold, Steve Bing; Paul Federbush, Jeff Skoll; Tom Jacobson; Nathan Lane; Philip Anshutz; Bette Midler, Marc Platt; Adam Shankman, Michael Patrick King, Daniel Battsek, Nathan Lane, Margot Lion, Elizabeth McCann; Penny Marshall, and Vanessa Taylor at Pretty Matches Productions, which is currently producing 's8220;The Washingtonienne,'s8221; an HBO sit-com about an ingenious and ambitious Senatorial intern who discovers product placement opportunities right in her own workplace. 's8220;It's8217;s kind of an 's8216;Apprentice,'s8217; except horizontal,'s8221; notes Farrow.
But to date the film rights remain unsold. 's8220;Ryan Markowitz and Mark Kaufman at New Line Cinema continue to pass, as does Christina Aguilera,'s8221; says Farrow. 's8220;And the woman at MTV remains vitriolic in her rejection of it.'s8221;
