Exo2 the Heat is on
April 23, 2005 -- The polymer based material is lightweight, waterproof, windproof, crushproof and stretchable. Being chemically inert and fully compliant with CE regulations, the product is intrinsically safe.Using the latest power technologies such as Li-Ion (Lithium-Ion) batteries and solar power this unique fabric will provide heat at a constant temperature with no danger of overheating. The rechargeable batteries are small and discreetly placed within the clothing.
The technology has already been commercially employed by some of the leading outdoor clothing suppliers - the Berghaus "Heatcell" Gilet , the Typhoon "Icebreaker" vest for wearing under dry suits and a heated lining for the Thermoform ski boot. Despite these products operating in radically different environments (outdoor and undersea), Fabroc has proven to be sufficiently flexible and adaptable to meet the exacting specifications of these leading manufacturers.
Potential applications for Fabroc are virtually unlimited. Currently in development are: equine blankets; saddle and leg warmers; heated joint supports; domestic radiators/underfloor heating systems; car seat warmers; motorcycle fleeces (with handlebar-mounted heating controls); heated boots and insoles; wetsuit warmers and sleeping bag warmers. EXO2 has also developed its own range of heated mitts, gloves and heated back belts under the "Heatweave" brand.
"We have invested heavily in ground-breaking research to pioneer the development of Fabroc. We were the first company to use a conductive polymer fabric to heat people," said James Laing, EXO2 Business Manager.
"Apart from applying the technology in the outdoor and adventure clothing sectors we are addressing applications such as medical, remedial and even domestic heating. The market for 'smart clothing' is going to be huge and we intend to keep at the forefront of technology developments."
Key benefits of Fabroc include:
- Only heated fabric range which can self regulate its temperature
- No overheating wires, hot spots or clunky batteries
- No compromise on design or comfort: warmth on tap
- Can be stretched, crushed, washed and it still works
- Lightweight and highly resistant to chemical reaction across a wide range of materials and processes
- Can be powered by batteries, AC wall adaptors, vehicle adaptors or solar power. Operates at very low voltages (typically 3.7v - 14.8v)
- Can be extruded at thicknesses down to 0.6mm
- A small and discreet battery can provide up to six hours heat on a single charge (three hours charge time)
