University of Baltimore Student Protest Planned for April 10

The University of Baltimore Student Government Association (SGA) will be holding a Walkout and Protest on Thursday, April 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the University of Baltimore's Gordon Plaza. This protest will give students a chance to show the administration that they are not happy with both the parking proposal itself and that the university came to its decision without student input. The event is free and open to the public. Gordon Plaza is located at the corner of Maryland and W. Mt. Royal avenues.

Here is how the protest will work:

-- Guests will enter the protest area where tables will be set up to make signs and sign a petition.

-- Student leaders will speak about the parking model and the counter proposal the SGA has written.

-- Documents will be passed out to guests informing them of the steps taken so far regarding the parking model.

Cari Watts, a graduate student in UB's negotiation and conflict management program and president of The Graduate Student Senate (www.ubalt.edu/gss), said, "We knew the students were not going to be happy and as their student representatives, we needed to give the students an opportunity to let the administration know they did not appreciate being kept out of the loop. Our goal is to give the students a voice and an opportunity to express their disapproval."

In a prepared statement provided by the SGA, they state, "The Student Government Association (SGA) will ensure that the voice of the students is heard by the administration, and we welcome your help, support and input on this matter as it will affect students for years to come."

The Student Government Association is the collective student governments, comprised of the Student Bar Association (www.ubalt.edu/sba), Graduate Student Senate and Undergraduate Student Senate (www.ubalt.edu/uss) of the University of Baltimore.

The University of Baltimore (http://www.ubalt.edu) is a member of the University System of Maryland and comprises the School of Law, the Yale Gordon College of Liberal Arts and the Merrick School of Business.
