Budapest to Krakow Bicycle Tour Connects Three Countries Multiple Cultures Amber Trail Tour Crosses Hungary Slovakia and Pola

For centuries, merchants traveled along the Amber Trail from the Baltic to the Adriatic exchanging goods, ideas and cultures. Now, cyclists can get a taste of life along the ancient trade route on the bicycle tour "Budapest to Krakow on the Amber Trail." The tour covers nearly 200 miles of the new Amber Trail Greenways heritage route as it passes through Hungary, Slovakia and Poland. The tour starts just outside of Budapest in the artists' town of Szentendre. It continues along the Danube River and then up to Banska Stiavnica, an old hillside mining town. The route then crosses sections of the Carpathian Mountains with panoramic views to the Slovakian countryside and remote mountain villages. It finishes in the historic city of Krakow with its extensive, historic Old Town and former Jewish district, the Kazimierz. Along the way, cyclists visit medieval towns, remote villages, pilgrimage sites, silver and salt mines, castles and six UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
