Why do Waterfall's return guests visit the same waters that Alaska fishermen have explored for over 100 years Is it the dramatic rugged coastline, the playful wildlife, or the cracked crab with a favorite chardonnay that brings them back Certainly that is part of the reason, but it is also the opportunity to enjoy Sportfishing for King and Silver Salmon, Halibut, Red Snapper and Ling Cod! And to view Whales, Sea Lions, Eagles and Bears!
For several years, the Waterfall Resort partners have donated a limited number of two-for-one 3 night / 4 day Sportfishing Packages to Charities to auction at their fundraising events.
According to General Partner, Ken Dole, Waterfall receives several dozen letters from Charities each year requesting donations of our sportfishing packages for their charity fundraising events. "The partners and I realized that we could not accommodate the abundance of requests that the Resort received, but still, we wanted to assist the Charities in their endeavors. So we created our Charity
Auction Donation Program to help as many charities as we could. This Program allows the guests at the charity auctions to bid on our Sportfishing Packages. Many charities have received funding from our Program. Some of these charities even encouraged a "bidding war" for two packages to be auctioned off at the same event. Others offer our Sportfishing Packages at several of their auctions each year."
Waterfall's Marketing Director, Chuck Baird, explains the program as a two-for-one or consignment donation. "Basically, we offer the charities the opportunity to auction our 3 day / 4 night Sportfishing Package for two guests. The 2008 retail value of the Sportfishing Package is $7,950 and is good through our 2009 season. It includes the 90-minute round-trip floatplane between Ketchikan and Waterfall Resort, located on Prince of Wales Island. Except for a few exclusions like the guest's airfare from Hometown, USA to Ketchikan, AK, fishing license, tournament fees and staff gratuities, the Sportfishing Package is all-inclusive. The auctioneer starts the bidding at several hundred dollars above our minimum bid requirement of $4,350. All monies over and above that amount stay with the charity." "The great thing for the charity," Baird explained, "is that if our Sportfishing Package doesn't sell, there is no financial obligation to the charity."
