Make a Big Difference on a Short Break with Starfish Ventures

May 10, 2005 -- Make a big difference on a short break in Thailand with Starfish Ventures. We have tailor-made two week packages where you can get involved in hands-on turtle conservation work on a beautiful Thai island or help out at the Dog Rescue Centre in the seaside town of Hua Hin.

A Starfish Short Break is an ideal introduction to Thailand, because your volunteer work means you experience Thailand as part of the local community rather than as a tourist. You'll meet lots of new people, get to try new things and be making a big difference to the lives of the people you work with and the animals for which they care.

Starfish Short Breaks help you make the most of your two week holiday time: our dedicated team will ensure that you settle in quickly when you arrive in Thailand and get to experience local life away from the tourist crowds. We're there whenever you need us; meeting you at the airport, organising your accommodation, and providing help and info on everything from the local food to planning other trips around Thailand. Take a look at the testimonials on our website (www.starfishventures.co.uk) to see what previous volunteers think of Starfish's approach to volunteering.

Starfish's turtle conservation project is based in Rayong province. The current stock of turtles in Thai waters is in desperate need of replenishment. The Rayong Turtle Conservation Centre has a protected island which is used specifically for giving turtles not only a refuge but also a helping hand. The turtles have their own beach on the island for breeding and volunteers help with weighing, measuring and monitoring the turtles to gauge their progress. The young are collected, nurtured and then released at different points throughout the Gulf Of Thailand.

Starfish's dog rescue centre project is located in the picturesque seaside town of Hua Hin. The dog rescue centre is run by two British ladies, Dawn and Maureen, and is home for some fifty stray dogs, all of whom are in need of new, loving owners. The animals are well looked after but your help is needed with the day-to-day care of the dogs and to assist with fundraising so as to keep the Rescue Centre fully active.

About Starfish Ventures
Starfish Ventures is a British company which specialises in supporting development projects in Thailand through the placement of foreign volunteers, delivering financial aid and providing expertise and project management.

Starfish Ventures has a genuine long term commitment to each of our projects, not only providing volunteers but also financial support to achieve particular goals. Starfish works in partnership with the Thai organisations it supports to continually understand and prioritise their requirements, providing knowledge, volunteers and financial help in tandem to ensure palpable, lasting change.

Having had extensive experience of being a volunteer teacher himself, Starfish Ventures director Dan Moore has first hand knowledge of the excitement and rewards of working in Thailand. During his travels around the country, Dan became aware of a large amount of worthwhile projects in Thailand that would benefit from the support of a volunteer network that provided not only manpower but financial assistance. Dan set up Starfish Ventures in order to create a company that would provide a long term commitment to projects in Thailand that went beyond simply placing volunteers.
