Artist Releases Watercolor Snapshots of His Trip to Israel
Artist Howard Salmon recently traveled to Israel (May 29 - June 9, 2005), but left his camera home. Instead he took his set of watercolors. He painted 33 paintings while standing up listening to the tour guide in front of various historic site, from Ancient to Modern
"An artistic interpretation is more accurate than a photograph,", he said. "A drawing or painting done on the spot captures the feel of place in a way that a photo cannot."
"I would encourage all travelers to draw or paint what they see when they travel. It can really enrich your experience of a place, because you've got to use your powers of observation more than you do with a camera."
He has released a book of these paintings, available at his website, howardsalmon.com.
