On May 27, a representative of print on demand company Lulu.com which has printed all three of Ecklund'ss waterfall books, contacted him to advise that the aforementioned titles had been placed on Amazon.com because of strong sales and mass appeal. Both books extol the beauty of Hamilton'ss 125 recorded waterfalls and cascades and spread the message that the city is the waterfall capital of the world.
Hamilton, the City of Waterfalls is a thirty-page hardcover volume containing photos of all 125 local falls. The Golden Age of Waterfalling (1889-1905) features rare waterfall photos and
stories dating from the late 1800s. A third volume published by Ecklund, Winter Waterfall Magic, is a photo collection of Hamilton waterfalls during wintertime.
Hamilton, the City of Waterfalls was mentioned in the Summer 2009 issue of Escarpment Views magazine. Reviewer Gloria Hildebrandt noted, A movement has begun in the City of Hamilton to
change its identity from Steel Town to the City of Waterfalls. Community members like Chris Ecklund want to celebrate and promote the fact that Hamilton has more than 100 of them.
In May 2008 Chris Ecklund launched his City of Waterfalls web initiative with the intention of rebranding Hamilton as the waterfall capital of the world. Since then, the website at
www.cityofwaterfalls.ca has received thousands of visits, and the accompanying Facebook group is the largest Hamilton-themed group on the
Facebook network. Ecklund also sponsors waterfall walks on most weekends.
