Gone Sailing Author Encourages Others to Pursue Their Dreams No Matter...

In September, 2002 Larry Peck, along with his wife Nicky and their daughter Victoria Christina, set sail aboard the Meriah from their home in British Columbia. Six years later, their adventure continues. They plan to spend ten years sailing around the world in the 50-foot vessel. They'sve endured storms at sea, spent winters in places like the Bahamas, and added a member to the crew--Serena Leigh Peck, born on October 5, 2006.

In May, 2006 Mary Jacquelyn Watt and her husband Bob set sail on the Shadowfax for a 3-month, 2,000-mile voyage of the Pacific'ss Inside Passage from Seattle to Alaska. Unlike the Pecks, the Watts were novice sailors. Watt was inspired by the sailing adventures of her twin sister, an experienced sailor who took a year-long trans-Atlantic voyage from Virginia to Europe and the Mediterranean while the Watts were sailing the Pacific. While traveling Mary studied the history of the sites along the Inside Passage while husband Bob (known as Captain Bob) crafted a hand carved cedar rowing paddle. She recorded her trip, including full color photos, in the book Journal Entries of a Trepid Sailor.

This is a journal of a sailor new to the experience of sailing but knowledgeable enough to respect (and fear) the tides, currents, weather, waves and whirlpools of the area, Watt says of her book.

Having a rare skeletal problem (as does her twin) that has resulting in both hip replacement and back surgery, this author maintains an active life despite a disability. She is hoping that the book will both encourage and inspire readers to take similar trips themselves.
