The Oslo Airport, Norway'ss largest airport, has installed a digital signage (www.scala.com) network consisting of 17 screens and three channels to communicate information about updated security regulations to passengers and employees. Screens are placed before the airport'ss main security checkpoints and at a separate employee checkpoint, and they feature custom content.
After noticing confusion among travelers about changing security regulations, the airport staff sought out a better way to communicate this information. Once management learned the
benefits of using a digital signage network, they turned to digital signage company Ferd Consulting AS (http://ferdconsulting.net/) (Oslo). Ferd
suggested Scala (www.scala.com) software to power the network because it would give airport staff the flexibility to simultaneously schedule different
messages on multiple screens.
Ferd coordinated the setup and installation of 14 SAMSUNG's169; screens in front of the security checkpoint. Four of those screens feature easy-to-understand content about new
regulations. They are located near tables so travelers can reorganize their hand luggage to comply with the regulations. Three separate screens and a different channel are reserved for
employees using the staff security checkpoint, allowing management to communicate additional information internally.
We are impressed by the flexibility of the software. It was an important criterion for us to be able to have several channels. Now we can show different messages and manage the content
down to the hour if we like, said Ruben Olsen, Quality Controller at Oslo Airport'ss security checkpoint.
Since installing the network six months ago, the security staff has noticed a significant reduction in the confiscation of restricted materials. They partly attribute that improvement to
content on the digital signs.
Ferd continues to maintain and operate the network, but Oslo Airport'ss main goal is to eventually create and schedule its own content using Scala software.
