Met Council Focuses New Yorkers on Growing Poverty with New Online...

Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty (Met Council) unveiled its online winter campaign this month, combining stark visuals and language with enhanced online capabilities to depict wintertime poverty and compel New Yorkers to give.

The goal is to raise $50,000 over the next three months, which will primarily go towards food, emergency cash, warm clothing and career services for the increasing numbers of New Yorkers in need. By publicizing the campaign with a mix of online advertising, email campaigns and PSAs, Met Council hopes to keep costs down while reaching new potential donors in more compelling ways.

The key message is that every little bit helps, noted William E. Rapfogel, executive director and CEO of Met Council. If you can donate just $12, that'ss a food package for a senior. $100 helps a family keep their heat on for a month, and $500 can save a family from eviction.

Poverty comes especially hard this winter, as rising prices, market drops and increased layoffs are trapping more and more New Yorkers into the net of need. Thousands of children, adults and seniors are no longer able to afford nutritious food, warm clothing or heat, and many more are worried for the fate of their homes and jobs. By donating to Met Council'ss winter campaign at www.metcouncil.org, New Yorkers can feel secure that their money is directly easing the plight of individuals in need.
