The Naperville Womans Club Commemorative History a Unique Perspective...

The Naperville Woman's Club announces the media launch of its Commemorative History.

The 132-page history highlights ways women banned together in 1897 and helped develop Naperville, Illinois, a city that Money Magazine rated the number two place to live in 2006. The Woman's Club book offers over 75 privately held photographs, including costumes worn at the 1893 Chicago World Fair. The founding members of the club were prominent members of the community. Their contributions and those of future members provide unique insights into the club's volunteer efforts, which span 110 years, as well as the growth of their suburban community.

The Naperville Woman's club largely works behind the scenes to meet charitable needs and enhance society. The publication took 15 months to research and produce but was well worth the effort, because it increased the club's admiration for the remarkable women who founded the club and reinforced traditions worth preserving. Sections of the book include: charter members, presidents and the accomplishments of their terms, members who served in the military, GFWC, the history of the clubhouse built in 1899, the chorus, and the club's committees.

The Naperville Woman's Club is organized as part of the Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs and General Federation of Women's Clubs, which has more than 100,000 members in every state and a dozen countries. The publication was initiated as a GFWC special project "Preserving Our Heritage" designed to empower women.

The club will launch its book at the Barnes & Noble store on Chicago Avenue in Naperville, Illinois, on October 17, 2007. The presentation will begin at 10:30 in the morning. The current and past presidents are scheduled to be on hand to autograph copies. The Naperville Woman's Club is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and sales proceeds benefit Naperville programs in the area of arts and education as well as other area charities.
