For Valentines Day Busy Mom Takes Time to Teach Daughters About Gratitude



Four years ago, in August of 2004, Leisa Naples gave birth to a set of identical twins. One year later, in November 2005, Leisa gave birth to her second set of identical twins. Both sets of twins (all girls) were born prematurely due to a dangerous medical condition Leisa developed during her pregnancy, called HELLP syndrome. The only cure for the deadly condition is to deliver the baby. So not only did Leisa suffer this with her first twin pregnancy, but against all medical odds, it occurred again during her second twin pregnancy. Leisa is convinced that if it weren'st for her excellent care at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital, she and her four darling princesses may not have survived.



The nurses were just remarkable, I could not have asked for better care of myself and my little angels, Leisa said. The doctors acted in time so that Leisa and her babies did not suffer any long term effects from the illness. The two twin pregnancies both came as a surprise, and seemed like fate since no in vitro fertilization was involved. Both sets of twins also came home exactly 10 days after arriving into the world.



Now, the older set of twins are four and the younger, three, and Leisa is teaching the girls how important it is to do things for others and feels that Valentine'ss Day is a perfect holiday to teach her girls about giving back. As part of the celebration of their favorite holiday, this year, they are excited to be giving back some love to the hospital that gave them so much love and care during those first days of their lives.



Leisa says, I have always loved Valentine'ss Day, and thought that there is definitely a lack of just general giving when compared to other holidays. So I decided that all the sick kids in the hospital should receive some sweetness for Valentine'ss Day.



It was then that Leisa realized that what children need when they aren'st feeling well, is something that is going to get their minds off of being sick and take them into a fantasy world where they become someone else for a short time, like a princess, or ballerina, or even a super hero. Since Leisa designs dancewear and children'ss tutus, it seemed like a perfect fit. She decided to design a Valentine'ss fairy tutu for the children in the hospital and deliver so that she and her girls could deliver it to them. All four of Leisa'ss girls even helped pick out the material for the tutus.



I hope this will be a tradition we take part in as a family every year on Valentine'ss Day. My girls helped package all the tutus and are so excited for all of the children to get their sweet surprises, Leisa said.



Of course, the boys were not forgotten. Her husband, Dr. John Mullins, donated some cool designer sunglasses for them and Leisa designed special Valentine'ss tees for the older teenage girls. Said Leisa, In these tough economic times, with so much cynicism in the world, it just felt like a it would be a nice escape and a great way to celebrate love and the little joys in life.
