www.distributionrevolution.net is designed to connect high-quality independent feature films that have screened at film festivals to the worldwide audience through the Internet using digital distribution. Flood plans to program the site to maintain a level of quality. She states: "I'm looking for great films, both narratives and documentaries. I know for a fact that they're out there and I know there is a large audience waiting to join the Distribution Revolution in order to see them."
A Totally Minor Motion Picture is currently being marketed via grassroots methods, such as word-of-mouth and email forwarding. Hence the site's tag line: "Distribution Revolution is Movies Moving Forward." At present, it is one movie moving forward. Flood's film is the pilot program, but she is eager to add new content as the site's audience grows in the coming months.
"The Bonus Feature!" is the philanthropic aspect of Flood's "Revolution." Ten cents from each download, per million downloads, is set aside for charity. The first goal is to raise $100,000.00 from the first million downloads of her movie to benefit Partners In Health (PIH) in 2008. PIH's mission and world-class reputation inspired the filmmaker:
"The PIH Vision: Whatever it takes. At its root, our mission is both
medical and moral. It is based on solidarity, rather than charity alone."
As Flood, the mother of two young children, sees it: "It's high time for a paradigm shift in the world of independent movie distribution. I'm excited to be providing the alternative that combines film and philanthropy. Films can enlighten the mind or lighten the heart and money made from them can make a difference."
