Unprecedented numbers show up for FirefoxIEnet Newswire Launch
With the launch of FirefoxIE Newswire along with FirefoxIE, the website saw
unprecedented numbers of users accessing at the same time. There were so many
users that many people waited for hours trying to get their own copy of the
pre built and customized Firefox browser. It actually crashed the web host's
system.
"With growth like this, all we can do is to keep upgrading the hardware until
everyone is comfortable using the system. We've gotten to the point where we
can handle most requests right away, there are occasional slowdowns during peak
times, but we will keep upgrading the hardware until we remove the wait
entirely." says Dan McTaggart of FirefoxIE.net.
For those who had trouble getting through, you should now be able to get your
browser without further problems. The processing for the newswire is now being
done on a separate server.
The FirefoxIE News Search is now turning in more relevant results, Please
remember that at times, there simply may not be immediate news on a particular
subject, in which case, general news updates are presented.
FirefoxIE Newswire now looks and behaves the same both in Internet Explorer and
FirefoxIE. This is the FirefoxIE claim to fame, producing identical content on
both platforms. For scrolling news content, this is a first. The "jumpy
scrolling" that Firefox is famous for, has been eliminated.
During the upgrade, we also made the browser code cleaner and faster. We went
from 17MB down to 10.4MB without losing functionality. FirefoxIE now displays
Livemarks. Many Firefox users like the native search bar so it has been made
available in this release. It can be toggled on and off using Ctl-Shift-S.
The main website http://www.firefoxie.net will now have a download link with
the version date. Of course, you can also find out when a new version is
released via the RSS feed.
