Shreveport Police Announce CrimeWeb Initiative

CrimeWeb, which is used by law enforcement agencies nationwide, is a fast way to provide citizens, news media and organizations information about crime, missing persons, community events and other police-related matters.

For citizens to take advantage of the program, they must register on-line to receive free notifications on major crimes and police-sponsored events. They do that by logging onto www.CrimeWeb.net.

Whenever a major crime occurs or a child goes missing in their area, they will be alerted to the situation. They also can receive direct information about matters of homeland security, or even community crime notifications.

SPD has worked hard to keep open the lines of communication between itself and citizens, and this is another great tool that can be used to enhance the relationship, said Chief Campbell. "CrimeWeb is an easy way for people to get involved and be informed. Now, with the click of a button, people can help solve and prevent crime," Chief Campbell said.

Subscribers will receive information based on CrimeWebs zip code system that may affect them in their community. For example, a subscriber could register to receive an email alert letting them know about a robbery in their neighborhood. Or, the subscriber could request to receive a text alert on their cell phone or pager informing them that their local police department is offering a free home security guide.
