CbtTechs Forums Launches First Contest

CbtTechs (http://www.cbttechs.com) owners and operators of the CbtTechs Forums (http://www.cbttechs.com/forums/index.php), has publicly announced that they will be holding their very first contest. The contest will span over from today until the end of August, allowing almost every single member who registers today until the end of August, and all current members to have a greater chance of winning. CbtTechs hopes their very first contest goes very smoothly, so they may have contests in the very near future.

CbtTechs Forums is rapidly approaching its' first birthday, but never held a contest before due to the lack of funds. At the beginning of June, CbtTechs released what they called "Premium Membership" allowing certain members to donate some money and in return CbtTechs would grant them some additional features as a thank you. Premium Membership, combined with advertising allowed them to release this contest, at this point in time, they are expecting this contest a huge success, and encourage all inactive members to participate in the community as well encourage active members to take a more active role in the community as much as possible.

The contest officially starts today, and will end on August 31st at midnight (EDT). All current members, and any member who registers during that time is valid for the contest. Every post made on the forum, and every thread made has a unique ID. The way the contest is started is that the first post made today, will have its own ID, the owners of CbtTechs will document this ID, and keep it until the end of August. When the last post before August 31st is made, that ID will also be documented. They have created a script that will randomly "spit" out an ID between the beginning and ending ID. When this ID is "spitted" out, they will take it and see who it belongs to. If it belongs to any staff member, they will redo it, and check this ID, and keep repeating this until a non-staff member is chosen. When this member is chosen, they must give out their valid name, shipping address. If they fail to do so, (this information is kept private between the winner and the staff), it is up to CbtTechs to "redraw" a winner. Once everything has been set, the winner will receive a custom CbtTechs T-Shirt, customized with their own username or their real name. On this T-Shirt there is a picture of a computer, with a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), a BSOD is a widely feared screen associated with Windows PC machines, indicating an error has occurred, and Microsoft Windows has failed. Then there is text below that, indicating "Don't let it get you down, join today" insinuating that a BSOD isn't the end of the world, they can help recover your PC to its' original state. Below that is the customization, their own forum's username, or name. They will also receive a mousepad with the same design, and their own username or name.

The main prize for the contest, is courtesy of one of it's members, Flyfsh. The knife is customly made by him, certainly a professional in the field. The blade of the knife is 1" wide and 3/8" thick, made from Silver Streak Obsidian. There is a sheath, which is a protective layer of the knife, is made from 100% deer hide skin. The knife has a retail value of several hundred dollars depending on it's purchase place. The way the knife is made, some background information on the knife and how it's made.

Flint knapping is the process of making stone tools (i.e. arrowheads, projectile points, hand axes, etc.). The ancient art of flint knapping has been around for about 4 millions years. Flint knapping has evolved as man has evolved. And it was not until recently that man quit knapping for survival purposes. Only a few small groups of people in remote parts of the world still knap as part of their daily lives. Flint knapping is a reduction process because flakes of stone are broken off the of the original piece of stone. Knappers, both ancient and modern, generally begin knapping a piece of stone with direct percussion. Direct percussion is accomplished by directly striking the stone which is to be made into a projectile point, etc., with a tool, such as a hammerstone or antler billet to remove large flakes. The purpose of direct percussion is to thin the stone to the required thickness. Generally, the next step is pressure flaking. Pressure flaking is achieved by placing a pointed tool, such as an antler tine or copper-tipped pressure flaker, on the edge of the stone, and applying an inward pressure to the tool. This pressure will remove a small, thin flake from the stone. Pressure flaking shapes and refines the projectile point. Finishing a point can include notching, stemming, fluting, etc.

Obsidian is the result of volcanic lava coming in contact with water. Often the lava pours into a lake or ocean and is cooled quickly. This process produces a glassy texture in the resulting rock. Iron and magnesium give the obsidian a dark green to black color. Obsidian has been used by ancient people as a cutting tool, for weapons, and for ceremonial purposes and is sometimes found by archaeologists in excavations.

Obsidian has several varieties. Obsidian can contain small bubbles of air that are aligned along layers created as the molten rock was flowing just before being cooled. These bubbles can produce interesting effects such as a golden sheen, known as Sheen Obsidian or a rainbow sheen called Rainbow Obsidian. Inclusions of small, white, radially clustered crystals of cristobalite in the black glass produce a blotchy or snowflake pattern producing Snowflake Obsidian.

CbtTechs Forums were first launched on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2004, by Tyler Cole. When he first launched the forums, he was completely surprised to see all of the users who joined when they joined on that holiday. This took Cole by surprised, he was determined to be the best forum they possibly can be. Today, CbtTechs forums is listed as a Microsoft Community, having over 225 members, more then 1,500 threads, and rapidly nearing 11,000 posts. CbtTechs encourages all of its' members to participate in the contest, not a member, register today and be a part!
