"Perhaps the most unusual thing about Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET is that, for decades, millions of people knew about it but relatively few had access to it. That all changed in May of 2007 when we began offering our products directly to the public through the CookieDietOnline.com web site," said Dr. Siegal. "We still have patients who come to Miami once a month from as far away as Latin America and Europe but most people now find it more convenient to buy the products online or in our stores and use them under their local doctor's direction."



Dr. Siegal came up with the idea of a cookie-based diet in the early 1970's while researching his book on natural food substances that augment the hypothalamic control of hunger. The hypothalamus is an area of the brain thought to play a role in hunger and satiety.



"I didn't set out to create a cookie, per se. My goal was to create a food without drugs that provided maximum hunger control per calorie and thus enabled my patients to stick to a calorie-restricted diet. I chose a cookie as the first product because it's small, portable, fits in a purse or briefcase, and isn't perishable," explained Dr. Siegal.



In 1975, after several years of experimentation on his family and friends, Dr. Siegal perfected his secret recipe for a blend of amino acid food proteins that effectively controls hunger without drugs. He baked his formula into an oatmeal raisin cookie and provided it to a few patients. Acceptance was immediate and within two years Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET had become the exclusive approach to weight loss at Siegal Medical Group.



"From the beginning, our cookie and diet were so successful at helping patients lose weight that word spread internationally," added Dr. Siegal. "By the mid-1980s we were supplying our cookies, shakes and soup to a couple hundred other doctors to use with their own patients."



Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET foods are made in the Miami-based physician's private bakery near his medical clinic. To this day, at 79, Dr. Siegal personally mixes every batch of his secret protein blend with his own hands.
