I Have The Light of Freedom Retreat June 18th to 23rd



I Have the Light of Freedom five day retreat is a community project that calls together women of color- scholars, activist of all genres, students, the work force, and practitioners between the ages of 13 and 35 who work for justice.

The goal of the I Have The Light Of Freedom retreat is to bring together young women of color from different social, economic, sexual, political and spiritual locations; to strengthen the relationship between younger and older women of color justice workers; revive our trust, respect and intimacy so that we can collectively contemplate strategies that build up women of color lives as we simultaneously shape the lives of our families, institutions, and communities; build hospitable, just and life affirming environments where we express the power of our collective voices in ways that add meaning and vitality to our lives.

Ruby Sales, Founder and Direct of the Spirit House Projects(a
nationally known non-profit organization), will host and convene a five -day retreat. The retreat will take place at the Bishop Claggett Center in Buckeyestown, Maryland.

Speakers at the retreat will include Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, Cultural Historian, Jill Nelson, Journalist, Marcia Gillespie, Writer, Stacyann Chinn, Performing Artist, Rev. Dr. Renita Weems, A.M.E. Church Elder and author of several critically acclaimed books on women'ss spirituality and wholeness, Dr. Paula Matabane, award winning media producer, educator of mass media and activist, Dr. Barbara Ransby, author of the award winning biography of Ella Baker- Ella Baker and the Black Freedom Movement.
