Womens Only Monotype Printmaking on the Monterey Peninsula

Artista Creative Safaris for Women introduces Impresia Monotype Printmaking. Specifically designed for women , the three day safaris will include lodging at the Cypress Inn or Casa de Carmel in Carmel-by-the-Sea, art instruction, yoga, some meals, activities special to the region, and more. The first Impresia Safari will begin in March, 2008. Impresia is an introduction to monotype, a creative printmaking process of great versatility whereby a single art print is made with ink, paper, and pressure. Monotype has gained widespread popularity among artists due to its improvisational directness, the pleasure of immediate results and the wide range of possibilities of stylistic approaches suggested by the process-from hard edged shape-making to velvety, painterly abstractions-and even a seamless kind of collage.

During the safari, guests will have the opportunity to create a number of monotype prints, both in black and white and color. The spacious and well-lit Artista Studio is equipped with a full-size, professional etching press perfect for monotype printmaking. All necessary tools and materials will be provided at no additional charge to guests.

Instructor William Harsh, a veteran California painter, printmaker and instructor, will guide and inspire guests to explore their artistic interests and find their own unique expression in the monotype medium. Bill has nearly two decades experience teaching painting, drawing, color, design, and printmaking at colleges and universities throughout New England and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Bev Sanders founded Manifesta Safaris in 1997 when she designed and launched the highly successful Las Olas Surf Safaris for Women. In 2005, she created Artista Creative Safaris for Women, featuring intuitive abstract painting excursions. Artista is located in the beautiful seaside hamlet of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Here, women escape into Bohemia with creative instruction and inspirational activities specific to the area. Artista's newest safari offers women the opportunity to learn the history and importance of monotype printmaking, as well as providing all materials, tools, and all the essentials - fruit, chocolate, and Chardonnay.
