In an investigation conducted by undercover reporters for CBS News on the cleanliness of day spas in New York, shocking details of mass dereliction of basic rules of cleanliness were
revealed on its 11pm news show on Tuesday, February 28th. "The dirty little secret of the Day Spa Industry is that one of the ways to cut costs is not to change sheets after each
customer," stated one spa worker. Changing the sheets, laundering, etc. costs a salon $7 a sheet change. Add that up and it totals a big savings for the salon.
"The only spa mentioned as totally pristine in its cleanliness routine was "Christie & Co. Salon*Spa", located in the Bay Terrace Shopping, Bayside, Queens, New York. Stated Lois
Christie Founder and CEO, "Our customers are our first consideration - not just keeping costs down. Our salon is different from most because we truly care about our clients. They pay very
well for our services and we feel they are entitled to the very best we can provide for them."
Christie & Co. started in 1970 as a small salon with only four hairdressers. Today, it encompasses over 8,000 square feet with more than 70 employees, a testament to its commitment to
constantly upgrading and expanding its services. Lois Christie has recently become the first female Vice President of the Intercoiffure American/Canada organization that represent the
premiere salons in major companies worldwide.
