Slim and Fit Books released women'ss fitness author Laura Dayton'ss newest book on line and at select stores and health clubs. The book, WOW: Women Only Workouts, redefines the way women should look at exercise emphasizing the need for an all-day active lifestyle over any one class or exercise regimen.
It will take about 10,000 years for our sedentary lifestyles, careers and pastimes to atrophy the skeletal muscle and change our bodies from efficient running, walking, lifting, pulling
and pushing machines into something similar to a sea lion that requires little movement for survival. Until that time, as a species we have to move more, writes Dayton in the book'ss
first chapter.
Dayton, a lifelong fitness journalist, organized and promoted the first women'ss bodybuilding contests in the 1980s. As steroids permeated the sport she dropped her support and moved into
the women'ss fitness arena, publishing a magazine by the same name for more than ten years.
Dayton decided to throw out many of the male bodybuilding principles and develop the first weight training regimen for women only in her 1998 book, Lower Body Solution. A decade later she
still believes in her lower body workouts, and includes them in her new book, but she'ss expanded her views to encompass the way women in particular look at exercise and their bodies, and
how this affects a woman'ss ability to lose weight, and avoid diabetes and osteoporosis.
At times philosophical and theoretical, the book is extremely practical. It provides an illustrated index on the performance of more than 75 common exercises. It also contains workout
cards, journals and goal setting tools all copyrighted so you can take this spiral bound book to any print shop and make additional copies to keep your progress on course. Dayton also
covers diet, including plans and recipes.
Dayton, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, explains the principles behind most workouts, and provides a selection of seven routines that cover workouts for the woman who
refuses to set foot in a health club, all the way up to dedicated exercisers who have found their workouts are no longer getting them the results they desire. The website, www.slimandfit.com and accompanying blog provides a source of new workouts and exercise cards to keep the program fresh and working year, after year, after
year. That is unless, you'sd rather be a sea lion.
