Marcus Katz, founder of Tarot Professionals, reckons that Tarot gets a bad press and is often mistakenly associated with the gypsy-scarved woman in a fairground booth mutttering toothless curses. He laughs, and points out that there is no evidence that gypsies read Tarot cards until quite recently -- and neither has he ever cursed anyone! In fact, as an MBA graduate and PhD Researcher, Marcus makes an unlikely Tarot reader -- but so do many others. It was in recognition of the range of Tarot students, professionals and academics that inspired Marcus to create Tarot Professionals (http://www.tarotprofessionals.com) as a reflection of innovative and contemporary Tarot.
Tarot Professionals is a place where academics, historians, Tarot card collectors, readers and enthusiasts can share their interest and passions, he says. We offer a free course to all
members which uses the latest ideas in educational theory to really instill the cards and their use in a creative way, to quickly enrich your understanding of life. Tarot Professionals
also offers intermediate and advanced courses based on years of experience and research.
Marcus has been astonished by the rapid growth and success of the organisation. It seems like we are what the Tarot world has been waiting for, he suggests, going on to say in fact, we
are already a year in advance of our original planning - we have three issues of an excellent magazine already published and well-received, which is now attracting the best-selling
authors and experts in the Tarot field.
Also, we are holding our first workshop, a year in advance of our expectations featuring the top Tarot expert and author Rachel Pollack and other leading Tarot teachers. This year, it is
being held in the beautiful Lake District of England, but next year there will also be a US event.
So, what does the future hold for Tarot Professionals Like any good Tarot reader, Marcus is quick to point out that the future is under our own control and the cards offer a valuable
insight and guide into our condition and likely future, but change and freedom are equally important. In the case of Tarot Professionals, the following cards have been chosen from the
deck:
The MAGICIAN : Tarot Professionals is a dynamic, professional and developing group of people who are passionate and educated about their subject. The future will channel this energy into
increasingly exciting projects.
THE 3 OF CUPS: The card of good company! It shows that Tarot Professionals is a well-hearted community where people can feel welcome and supported no matter what their present level of
experience and interest.
TEMPERANCE (Reversed): As a professional organisation, we must stick to a professional presentation, and we will not hide our light under a bushel! It is time for Tarot to be recognised
as a culturally significant phenomena, and studied in the context of the human condition, culture and psychology.
So, with those cards in mind, and not a curse or toothless old woman in sight, it seems Tarot really does have a bright future for those that delve beyond their own expectations.
