Online Shops Take the Offensive as Trade Slows

Egyptian Wonders Limited, a Company registered in England and Wales, have launched a text only directory which aims to contain a comprehensive listing of all UK and Eire based companies who have an online presence and sell to the public. The only requirement for free inclusion is that the site must be using the popular ActinicTM range of shopping cart software.



Launched on Monday, the Egyptian Wonders Actinic Shop Directory has gained thirty categories and one hundred shop listings in its first week. "We now have 20 or 30 listings a day coming in," said Liz Campbell, Managing Director of EWL. "As word gets around the community, we expect to have over 1000 shops listed by the end of August."



The sheer range of products available is astounding including used cars, new mountain bikes, marine generators and air conditioners, snowboards and skis, lymphatic massage machines, cards for all occasions, papyrus paintings, babies cots, a huge variety of traditional board games. Organisations as diverse as the British Deer SocietyTM, the National Association of Cancer Self Help GroupsTM, Motherwell F.C. TM and The Balmoral CollectionTM all have a web presence built using the same software.



A visit to the peer support forum for this software demonstrates the character of these entrepreneurs. Every request for help from a new (or not so new) user of the software package attracts numerous responses as information on technical operation of the software are freely shared. These responses may be a one to one exchange as the questioner and a self appointed mentor work through a problem together, or may include comment and advice from several experienced users. The common theme is a desire to help.



A series of recent forum messages, comment on current drops in the number of web visitors who are buying online. Typical of the energy and enthusiasm demonstrated daily in the other postings, these British traders, instead of bemoaning the facts and looking for others to take action on their behalf, stepped forward and produced their own solution.
