like most people who have an interest in technology i have been circling the hdtv islands for years like a hawk looking for its prey. $700 for a 28-30%94 tv of any kind just had a punch that i couldn%92t duck. i then saw the sanyo 28%94 wide screen with the integrated hdtv and regular tuners for $499 (sanyo ht28745) and decided that was a price that i could live with to upgrade my tv system. don%92t ask me why i am so stingy on the television price like everyone else my tv gets more use and lasts 5 times as many years as my car does. after getting this first %93low cost%94 jump into the hdtv world i am definitely going to upgrade my main tv to a 52%94 flat screen. i love the difference between regular tv and hdtv that much. for all my knowledge of electronics the education i gave myself before my first purchase there is still an %93in the dark%94 approach that i had to overcome and some disappointments that i will look to resolve in my next purchase and you will hopefully avoid in your first after reading this.

first in the smaller tv that i got the 1080i (interlaced is what the %93i%94 stands for) is an incredible picture. if you%92re planning on going larger than a 30%94 then look for a hdtv that provides a 720p (the %93p%94 stands for progressive and is preferred for movies). the progressive format is better than the interlaced format so don%92t let the bigger number fool you. although you may see a bigger number on the progressive unit the comparison here is that a 720p is better than a 1080i. internet 2 is a few years around the corner and with that will come a wide variety of %93downloadable%94 movies and making the dvd almost obsolete and hard drive movie %93juke boxes%94 the standard for your in home viewing. remember that your next tv could last you 1015 and maybe even 20 years don%92t sell your future use short for a few missed options now.

while i am happy with my upgrade i am overall disappointed in my purchase. first audio i have been using dolby digital from my dvd player to my kenwood home theater system for years now via the fiber optic interface or dts port. this is an incredible difference in sound quality over rca cables if your dvd player and home theater has this option i highly recommend you use it you will notice the difference. so it goes to reason that i was excited while shopping to see that the sanyo hdtv had this type of digital audio output. it was even one of the selling points when i researched this model online. only what they don%92t tell you is you need to be using an actual hd signal from the ariel. there is no digital audio input option. in fact there should be 2 one for my satellite and one from my dvd player to a single digital output to the receiver. otherwise i have to choose which of my components gets direct access to my kenwood surround sound. needless to say i didn%92t choose the one channel available to me via the air and chose to hook my dvd player up to the digital audio. my satellite receiver doesn%92t have the digital audio output so this didn%92t conflict on this system but it will if i choose to upgrade my service to hdtv cable box or hdtv satellite. i would need either an audio receiver with multiple dts inputs or the tv to do the switching for me. this appears to be an industry wide deficiency on all parts as i have not seen a setup that would appear to integrate all the technology without a complicated configuration.

first of all sanyo high definition tv came with a dvd to help me setup my system nice thought but frankly i had to set the system up to watch the dvd so not a brilliant marketing tool in my opinion. i watched the dvd and found that it covered 3 models of televisions the ht28745 being the high end of the 3 hdtv%92s. only the options they showed me for the video input were not actually on the tv. this is becoming a common problem with anything purchased at wal-mart. a lower cost version of the product is produced and 99% of the consumers will never miss the options or the quality that is gained from other retailers. this is the common problem if you have ever talked to a retailer that states %93 i can%92t compete with wal-mart%94 they usually are not even selling the exact same products. what i am talking about specifically here is the hdmi (high definition multimedia interface) input which is the super high resolution standard for audio and video. this missing input was the reason i couldn%92t make use of the optical audio output. to be defined as a hdtv the television must be capable of dolby digital output while this is technically true of the sanyo it is only true of the local channels received and not of any of the other devices you have in mind like hdtv cable hdtv satellite computer game inputs or common dvd players. these are the primary reasons for purchasing a hdtv so i felt a bit abused on this %93technicality%94 of hdtv standards qualification.

the software setup for menu%92s was absolutely annoying to maneuver around with it took some getting used to as the remote in my box was not the same one being demonstrated to me in the video mine looked more like a cheap knock off from an old tv model than the one to my new state of the art television. since i had to patch my video in separate from my audio i have to use two separate inputs. i used the s-video for my vcr/satellite signal and the rgb (red green blue) for the dvd signal. then patched the dvd audio directly to my surround sound allowing me to have the dolby digital and high definition that i was paying for even though it was not through the tv as i had hoped. now this doesn%92t greatly upset me until i find out i can%92t get rid of the extra input sources like the rf signal and empty s-video and component slots. so now when i switch to the dvd player i have to scan up 4 or 5 times to the other source instead of a single button push to the only %93other video source%94 this again is actually worse than the 15 year old tv i replaced.

i did like the zoom feature for the video giving me some single button options on the remote to handle non-hdtv television and still get a quality picture. i appreciate how clear the picture is. knowing what i know now i wouldn%92t buy a hdtv with the reciever intergrated. i just didn%92t need it my other devices produce video and true a hdtv monitor is all that is needed in today%92s technology world if you have a separated sound system. if you don%92t you would be wasting your money getting any hdtv.

in closing look on your dvd and tv tuner(satellite or cable) for the hdmi outputs before you buy or plan to upgrade those as well. double check that the hdtv monitor has this option as well. try to get a progressive scan 720p or better. i would not recommend this sanyo 28%94 widescreen as there is a reason this was %93the low price leader at wal-mart%94

click to enlargelike most people who have an interest in technology i have been circling the hdtv islands for years like a hawk looking for its prey. $700 for a 28-30%94 tv of any kind just had a punch that i couldn%92t duck. i then saw the sanyo 28%94 wide screen with the integrated hdtv and regular tuners for $499 (sanyo ht28745) and decided that was a price that i could live with to upgrade my tv system. don%92t ask me why i am so stingy on the television price like everyone else my tv gets more use and lasts 5 times as many years as my car does. after getting this first %93low cost%94 jump into the hdtv world i am definitely going to upgrade my main tv to a 52%94 flat screen. i love the difference between regular tv and hdtv that much. for all my knowledge of electronics the education i gave myself before my first purchase there is still an %93in the dark%94 approach that i had to overcome and some disappointments that i will look to resolve in my next purchase and you will hopefully avoid in your first after reading this.first in the smaller tv that i got the 1080i (interlaced is what the %93i%94 stands for) is an incredible picture. if you%92re planning on going larger than a 30%94 then look for a hdtv that provides a 720p (the %93p%94 stands for progressive and is preferred for movies). the progressive format is better than the interlaced format so don%92t let the bigger number fool you. although you may see a bigger number on the progressive unit the comparison here is that a 720p is better than a 1080i. internet 2 is a few years around the corner and with that will come a wide variety of %93downloadable%94 movies and making the dvd almost obsolete and hard drive movie %93juke boxes%94 the standard for your in home viewing. remember that your next tv could last you 1015 and maybe even 20 years don%92t sell your future use short for a few missed options now.while i am happy with my upgrade i am overall disappointed in my purchase. first audio i have been using dolby digital from my dvd player to my kenwood home theater system for years now via the fiber optic interface or dts port. this is an incredible difference in sound quality over rca cables if your dvd player and home theater has this option i highly recommend you use it you will notice the difference. so it goes to reason that i was excited while shopping to see that the sanyo hdtv had this type of digital audio output. it was even one of the selling points when i researched this model online. only what they don%92t tell you is you need to be using an actual hd signal from the ariel. there is no digital audio input option. in fact there should be 2 one for my satellite and one from my dvd player to a single digital output to the receiver. otherwise i have to choose which of my components gets direct access to my kenwood surround sound. needless to say i didn%92t choose the one channel available to me via the air and chose to hook my dvd player up to the digital audio. my satellite receiver doesn%92t have the digital audio output so this didn%92t conflict on this system but it will if i choose to upgrade my service to hdtv cable box or hdtv satellite. i would need either an audio receiver with multiple dts inputs or the tv to do the switching for me. this appears to be an industry wide deficiency on all parts as i have not seen a setup that would appear to integrate all the technology without a complicated configuration.first of all sanyo high definition tv came with a dvd to help me setup my system nice thought but frankly i had to set the system up to watch the dvd so not a brilliant marketing tool in my opinion. i watched the dvd and found that it covered 3 models of televisions the ht28745 being the high end of the 3 hdtv%92s. only the options they showed me for the video input were not actually on the tv. this is becoming a common problem with anything purchased at wal-mart. a lower cost version of the product is produced and 99% of the consumers will never miss the options or the quality that is gained from other retailers. this is the common problem if you have ever talked to a retailer that states %93 i can%92t compete with wal-mart%94 they usually are not even selling the exact same products. what i am talking about specifically here is the hdmi (high definition multimedia interface) input which is the super high resolution standard for audio and video. this missing input was the reason i couldn%92t make use of the optical audio output. to be defined as a hdtv the television must be capable of dolby digital output while this is technically true of the sanyo it is only true of the local channels received and not of any of the other devices you have in mind like hdtv cable hdtv satellite computer game inputs or common dvd players. these are the primary reasons for purchasing a hdtv so i felt a bit abused on this %93technicality%94 of hdtv standards qualification.the software setup for menu%92s was absolutely annoying to maneuver around with it took some getting used to as the remote in my box was not the same one being demonstrated to me in the video mine looked more like a cheap knock off from an old tv model than the one to my new state of the art television. since i had to patch my video in separate from my audio i have to use two separate inputs. i used the s-video for my vcr/satellite signal and the rgb (red green blue) for the dvd signal. then patched the dvd audio directly to my surround sound allowing me to have the dolby digital and high definition that i was paying for even though it was not through the tv as i had hoped. now this doesn%92t greatly upset me until i find out i can%92t get rid of the extra input sources like the rf signal and empty s-video and component slots. so now when i switch to the dvd player i have to scan up 4 or 5 times to the other source instead of a single button push to the only %93other video source%94 this again is actually worse than the 15 year old tv i replaced.i did like the zoom feature for the video giving me some single button options on the remote to handle non-hdtv television and still get a quality picture. i appreciate how clear the picture is. knowing what i know now i wouldn%92t buy a hdtv with the reciever intergrated. i just didn%92t need it my other devices produce video and true a hdtv monitor is all that is needed in today%92s technology world if you have a separated sound system. if you don%92t you would be wasting your money getting any hdtv.in closing look on your dvd and tv tuner(satellite or cable) for the hdmi outputs before you buy or plan to upgrade those as well. double check that the hdtv monitor has this option as well. try to get a progressive scan 720p or better. i would not recommend this sanyo 28%94 widescreen as there is a reason this was %93the low price leader at wal-mart%94 click to enlargelike most people who have an click to enlargelike most people who have an interest in technology i have been circling the hdtv islands for years like a hawk looking for its prey. $700 for a 28-30%94 tv of any kind just had a punch that i couldn%92t duck. i then saw the sanyo 28%94 wide screen with the integrated hdtv and regular tuners for $499 (sanyo ht28745) and decided that was a price that i could live with to upgrade my tv system. don%92t ask me why i am so stingy on the television price like everyone else my tv gets more use and lasts 5 times as many years as my car does. after getting this first %93low cost%94 jump into the hdtv world i am definitely going to upgrade my main tv to a 52%94 flat screen. i love the difference between regular tv and hdtv that much. for all my knowledge of electronics the education i gave myself before my first purchase there is still an %93in the dark%94 approach that i had to overcome and some disappointments that i will look to resolve in my next purchase and you will hopefully avoid in your first after reading this.first in the smaller tv that i got the 1080i (interlaced is what the %93i%94 stands for) is an incredible picture. if you%92re planning on going larger than a 30%94 then look for a hdtv that provides a 720p (the %93p%94 stands for progressive and is preferred for movies). the progressive format is better than the interlaced format so don%92t let the bigger number fool you. although you may see a bigger number on the progressive unit the comparison here is that a 720p is better than a 1080i. internet 2 is a few years around the corner and with that will come a wide variety of %93downloadable%94 movies and making the dvd almost obsolete and hard drive movie %93juke boxes%94 the standard for your in home viewing. remember that your next tv could last you 1015 and maybe even 20 years don%92t sell your future use short for a few missed options now.while i am happy with my upgrade i am overall disappointed in my purchase. first audio i have been using dolby digital from my dvd player to my kenwood home theater system for years now via the fiber optic interface or dts port. this is an incredible difference in sound quality over rca cables if your dvd player and home theater has this option i highly recommend you use it you will notice the difference. so it goes to reason that i was excited while shopping to see that the sanyo hdtv had this type of digital audio output. it was even one of the selling points when i researched this model online. only what they don%92t tell you is you need to be using an actual hd signal from the ariel. there is no digital audio input option. in fact there should be 2 one for my satellite and one from my dvd player to a single digital output to the receiver. otherwise i have to choose which of my components gets direct access to my kenwood surround sound. needless to say i didn%92t choose the one channel available to me via the air and chose to hook my dvd player up to the digital audio. my satellite receiver doesn%92t have the digital audio output so this didn%92t conflict on this system but it will if i choose to upgrade my service to hdtv cable box or hdtv satellite. i would need either an audio receiver with multiple dts inputs or the tv to do the switching for me. this appears to be an industry wide deficiency on all parts as i have not seen a setup that would appear to integrate all the technology without a complicated configuration.first of all sanyo high definition tv came with a dvd to help me setup my system nice thought but frankly i had to set the system up to watch the dvd so not a brilliant marketing tool in my opinion. i watched the dvd and found that it covered 3 models of televisions the ht28745 being the high end of the 3 hdtv%92s. only the options they showed me for the video input were not actually on the tv. this is becoming a common problem with anything purchased at wal-mart. a lower cost version of the product is produced and 99% of the consumers will never miss the options or the quality that is gained from other retailers. this is the common problem if you have ever talked to a retailer that states %93 i can%92t compete with wal-mart%94 they usually are not even selling the exact same products. what i am talking about specifically here is the hdmi (high definition multimedia interface) input which is the super high resolution standard for audio and video. this missing input was the reason i couldn%92t make use of the optical audio output. to be defined as a hdtv the television must be capable of dolby digital output while this is technically true of the sanyo it is only true of the local channels received and not of any of the other devices you have in mind like hdtv cable hdtv satellite computer game inputs or common dvd players. these are the primary reasons for purchasing a hdtv so i felt a bit abused on this %93technicality%94 of hdtv standards qualification.the software setup for menu%92s was absolutely annoying to maneuver around with it took some getting used to as the remote in my box was not the same one being demonstrated to me in the video mine looked more like a cheap knock off from an old tv model than the one to my new state of the art television. since i had to patch my video in separate from my audio i have to use two separate inputs. i used the s-video for my vcr/satellite signal and the rgb (red green blue) for the dvd signal. then patched the dvd audio directly to my surround sound allowing me to have the dolby digital and high definition that i was paying for even though it was not through the tv as i had hoped. now this doesn%92t greatly upset me until i find out i can%92t get rid of the extra input sources like the rf signal and empty s-video and component slots. so now when i switch to the dvd player i have to scan up 4 or 5 times to the other source instead of a single button push to the only %93other video source%94 this again is actually worse than the 15 year old tv i replaced.i did like the zoom feature for the video giving me some single button options on the remote to handle non-hdtv television and still get a quality picture. i appreciate how clear the picture is. knowing what i know now i wouldn%92t buy a hdtv with the reciever intergrated. i just didn%92t need it my other devices produce video and true a hdtv monitor is all that is needed in today%92s technology world if you have a separated sound system. if you don%92t you would be wasting your money getting any hdtv.in closing look on your dvd and tv tuner(satellite or cable) for the hdmi outputs before you buy or plan to upgrade those as well. double check that the hdtv monitor has this option as well. try to get a progressive scan 720p or better. i would not recommend this sanyo 28%94 widescreen as there is a reason this was %93the low price leader at wal-mart%94 click to enlargelike most people who have an don%92t let the bigger number fool you. although you may see a bigger number on the progressive unit the comparison here is that a 720p is better than a 1080i. internet 2 is a few years around the that your next tv could last you 1015 and maybe even 20 years don%92t sell your future use short for a few missed options now.while i am happy with my upgrade i am overall disappointed in my purchase. first audio i have been using dolby digital from my dvd player to my kenwood home theater system for years now via the fiber optic interface or dts port. this is an incredible difference in sound quality over rca cables if your dvd player and home theater has this option i highly recommend you use it you will notice the difference. so it goes to reason that i was excited while shopping to see that the sanyo hdtv had this type of digital audio output. it was even one of the selling points when i researched this model online. only what they don%92t tell you is you need to be using an actual hd signal from the ariel. there is no digital audio input option. in fact there should be 2 one for my satellite and one from my dvd player to a single digital output to the receiver. otherwise i have to choose which of my components gets direct access to my kenwood surround sound. needless to say i didn%92t choose the one channel available to me via the air and chose to hook my dvd player up to the digital audio. my satellite receiver doesn%92t have the digital audio output so this didn%92t conflict on this system but it will if i choose to upgrade my service to hdtv cable box or hdtv satellite. i would need either an audio receiver with multiple dts inputs or the tv to do the switching for me. this appears to be an industry wide deficiency on all parts as i have not seen a setup that would appear to integrate all the technology without a complicated configuration.first of all sanyo high definition tv came with a dvd to help me setup my system nice thought but frankly i had to set the system up to watch the dvd so not a brilliant marketing tool in my opinion. i watched the dvd and found that it covered 3 models of televisions the ht28745 being the high end of the 3 hdtv%92s. only the options they showed me for the video input were not actually on the tv. this is becoming a common problem with anything purchased at wal-mart. a lower cost version of the product is produced and 99% of the consumers will never miss the options or the quality that is gained from other retailers. this is the common problem if you have ever talked to a retailer that states %93 i can%92t compete with wal-mart%94 they usually are not even selling the exact same products. what i am talking about specifically here is the hdmi (high definition multimedia interface) input which is the super high resolution standard for audio and video. this missing input was the reason i couldn%92t make use of the optical audio output. to be defined as a hdtv the television must be capable of dolby digital output while this is technically true of the sanyo it is only true of the local channels received and not of any of the other devices you have in mind like hdtv cable hdtv satellite computer game inputs or common dvd players. these are the primary reasons for purchasing a hdtv so i felt a bit abused on this %93technicality%94 of hdtv standards qualification.the software setup for menu%92s was absolutely annoying to maneuver around with it took some getting used to as the remote in my box was not the same one being demonstrated to me in the video mine looked more like a cheap knock off from an old tv model than the one to my new state of the art television. since i had to patch my video in separate from my audio i have to use two separate inputs. i used the s-video for my vcr/satellite signal and the rgb (red green blue) for the dvd signal. then patched the dvd audio directly to my surround sound allowing me to have the dolby digital and high definition that i was paying for even though it was not through the tv as i had hoped. now this doesn%92t greatly upset me until i find out i can%92t get rid of the extra input sources like the rf signal and empty s-video and component slots. so now when i switch to the dvd player i have to scan up 4 or 5 times to the other source instead of a single button push to the only %93other video source%94 this again is actually worse than the 15 year old tv i replaced.i did like the zoom feature for the video giving me some single button options on the remote to handle non-hdtv television and actual hd signal from the ariel. there is no digital audio input option. in fact there should be 2 one for my satellite and one from my dvd player to a single digital output to the receiver. otherwise i have to choose which of my components gets direct access to my kenwood surround sound. needless to say i didn%92t choose the one channel available to me via the air and chose to hook my dvd player up to the digital audio. my satellite receiver doesn%92t have the digital audio output so this didn%92t conflict on this system but it will if i choose to upgrade my service to hdtv cable box or hdtv satellite. i would need either an audio receiver with multiple dts inputs or the tv to do the switching for me. this appears to be an industry wide deficiency on all parts as i have not seen a setup that would appear to integrate all the technology without a complicated configuration.first of all sanyo high definition tv came with a dvd to help me setup my system nice thought but frankly i had to set the system up to watch the dvd so not a brilliant marketing tool in my opinion. i watched the dvd and found that it covered 3 models of televisions the ht28745 being the high end of the 3 hdtv%92s. only the options they showed me for the video input were not actually on the tv. this is becoming a common problem with anything purchased at wal-mart. a lower cost version of the product is produced and 99% of the consumers will never miss the options or the quality that is gained from other retailers. this is the common problem if you have ever talked to a retailer that states %93 i can%92t compete with wal-mart%94 they usually are not even selling the exact same products. what i am talking about specifically here is the hdmi (high definition multimedia interface) input which is the super high resolution standard for audio and video. this missing input was the reason i couldn%92t make use of the optical audio output. to be defined as a hdtv the television must be capable of dolby digital output while this is technically true of the sanyo it is only true of the local channels received and not of any of the other devices you have in mind like hdtv cable hdtv satellite computer game inputs or common dvd players. these are the primary reasons for purchasing a hdtv so i felt a bit abused on this %93technicality%94 of hdtv standards qualification.the software setup for menu%92s was absolutely annoying to maneuver around with it took some getting used to as the remote in my box was not the same one being demonstrated to me in the video mine looked more like a cheap knock off from an old tv model than the one to my new state of the art television. since i had to patch my video in separate from my audio i have to use two separate inputs. i used the s-video for my vcr/satellite signal and the rgb (red green blue) for the dvd signal. then patched the dvd audio directly to my surround sound allowing me to have the dolby digital and high definition that i was paying for even though it was not through the tv as i had hoped. now this doesn%92t greatly upset me until i find out i can%92t get rid of the extra input sources like the rf signal and empty s-video and component slots. so now when i switch to the dvd player i have to scan up 4 or 5 times to the other source instead of a single button push to the only %93other video source%94 this again is actually worse than the 15 year old tv i replaced.i did like the zoom feature for the video giving me some single button options on the remote to handle non-hdtv television and still get a quality picture. i appreciate how clear the picture is. knowing what i know now i wouldn%92t buy a hdtv with the reciever intergrated. i just didn%92t need it my other devices produce video and true a hdtv monitor is all that is needed in today%92s technology world if you have a separated sound system. if you don%92t you would be wasting your money getting any hdtv.in closing look on your dvd and tv tuner(satellite or cable) for the hdmi outputs before you buy or plan to upgrade those as well. double check that the hdtv monitor has this option as well. try to get a progressive scan 720p or better. i would not recommend this sanyo 28%94 widescreen as there is a reason this was %93the low price leader at wal-mart%94 click to enlargelike most people who have an interest in technology i have been circling the hdtv islands for years like a hawk looking for its prey. $700 for a 28-30%94 tv of any kind just had a punch that i couldn%92t duck. i then saw the sanyo 28%94 wide screen with the integrated hdtv and regular tuners for $499 (sanyo ht28745) and decided that was a price that i could live with to upgrade my tv system. don%92t ask me why i am so stingy on the television price like everyone else my tv gets more use and lasts 5 times as many years as my car does. after getting this first %93low cost%94 jump into the hdtv world i am definitely going to upgrade my main tv to a 52%94 flat screen. i love the difference between regular tv and hdtv that much. for all my knowledge of electronics the education i gave myself before my first purchase there is still an %93in the dark%94 approach that i had to overcome and some disappointments that i will look to resolve in my next purchase and you will hopefully avoid in your first after reading this.first in the smaller tv that i got the 1080i (interlaced is what the %93i%94 stands for) is an incredible picture. if you%92re planning on going larger than a 30%94 then look for a hdtv that provides a 720p (the %93p%94 stands for progressive and is preferred for movies). the progressive format is better than the interlaced format so don%92t let the bigger number fool you. although you may see a bigger number on the progressive unit the comparison here is that a 720p is better than a 1080i. internet 2 is a few years around the corner and with that will come a wide variety of %93downloadable%94 movies and making the dvd almost obsolete and hard drive movie %93juke boxes%94 the standard for your in home viewing. remember that your next tv could last you 1015 and maybe even 20 years don%92t sell your future use short for a few missed options now.while i am happy with my upgrade i am overall disappointed in my purchase. first audio i have been using dolby digital from my dvd player to my kenwood home theater system for years now via the fiber optic interface or dts port. this is an incredible difference in sound quality over rca cables if your dvd player and home
